Volunteering

2011 is the European year of volunteering in the European Union.

According to the wikipedia(the free encyclopedia):volunteering is the practice of people working on behalf of others or a particular cause without payment for their time and services. Volunteering is generally considered an altruistic activity, intended to promote good or improve human quality of life, but people also volunteer for their own skill development, to meet others, to make contacts for possible employment, to have fun, and a variety of other reasons that could be considered self-serving.

Volunteering is a very important personal contribution to the community and thus to our society as well.

It is absolutely a positive action, every society should encourage their citizens to volunteer regularly,it could help a lot to ameliorate our environnement, and little by little all the world.

This year I also would like to volunteer,I'm thinking of doing volunteer work in a hospice house,-as my cusin works there,-or in a nursing home....

-Do you volunteer for your community? How often?

-What kind of work do you do?

-Do you think it is important to do volunteer work? Why?

-Are you willing to do volunteer work this year?

"Volunteer! Make a difference."-the official slogen of the EU for this year.

"I feel that the moment you adopt a sense of caring for others, it brings you inner strength. Inner strength brings inner tranquility, greater self-confidence. Because of such attitudes, even when things going on around you seem hostile and negative, you can still sustain your peace of mind."

-Dalai Lama-

  • Wow!thank you Rafal for the video!

I like Sesame street,my children watch Elmo with amazment everytime,he can teach so playfully!

Usher says:A volunteer is doing something, without wanting anything back,....magnanimously.

    Great share,thanks!

  • I agree with you,Sara:I think it's of human being and should be trained and teached as a great virtue.

I also think, that children should recieve in the school a training about volunteering, and do charity work and volunteer a certain number of hours during their schooldays.

I heard, that our government wants to obligate it in the near future.(I agree with this idea!Today's children -in this heartless and sometimes cruel world:(-need to be disciplined to be more charitable...)

Thank you for sharing your opinion here.

  • Thank you for your thorough answer, dear Karenina,I know you are a humanist and a warm-hearted person !

Great job you are doing for your community, keep it up!

  • @Anele:As you say, that volunteering is an ultimate act of kindness;the urge to volunteer has come from the heart.

'Every good act is charity. A man's true wealth hereafter is the good that he does in this world to his fellows. '
    Moliere

Thank you for sharing your idea about this theme:)

  • Dear Ramona,

You are completly right,I agree all what you say.

In my town there are possiblities for those, who want to propose their services for the benefit of the community.

at least there is a Red Cross everywhere,or in my town, the amount of homeless people is raising constantly.

Here,in Miskolc, there is also a large Causual ward for pye-dogs,one can help there a lot,to deal with those poor animals.

I like your idea of helping animals.Thank you for reading this post.

    Volunteer!Make the difference!...:))

  • Hello Fernando,

You are doing a good service, you'll be richly rewarded for it(at the end),for sure.

Thank you for sharing your experiences about volunteering with us...:)

  • Hello Denish,

As you mentioned about natural catastrophes,I can recall last years floods in my country.

After it many people volunteered,to help in the actual damages.....

To help others, and be charitable reflects just good things to the person, you are great!

  • Nafis,I'm facing the same probleme,as you,in addition,here there aren't so much organisations enumerated.

Hope this year it will change,as more attention being focused on them, and people will volunteer more willingly....

  • Dear Monika, this is my favorite subject. I love volunteering and in Canada, there are many websites that you can find to where you can contribute. However, I haven't find anything that I can do. And, sometimes, I'm not sure if these organizations are reliable or not. I'm still searching and waiting for a proper case suitable for my condition.
