as a translator for almost 7 years now… people come to me all the time and ask me how did you become so good in translation… even though i only use two languages at work (English-Arabic)… and i tell them it’s all about your passion to this … in a previous blog I mentioned how much a good thing is to learn a new language… i know that since I’m learning spanish nowadays… to be a good translator you need to understand the world of languages … because this world is a wide world that could take years to be explored… but the passion you have for learning is your key to this world.

translation as the title of this blog says , or at least this is how i view it , is a lively heart that beats in all languages… it’s true… because you don’t have to be a good translator only when you learn all languages… knowing one language in addition to your native one is enough…

as for me , i adore translation, and I’m so in love with this heart, that can say things and expresses them in a most unusual way… but the question is how to be good in this second language… people ask me how could you speak such good English when you’ve never been to UK, USA, Canada or any other English speaking country… the answer is very simple… we live in a small world…. yes now with all technologies you can learn anything that is taught to people anywhere around the world…

i come to learn English since i was a child … and it was the only languages i know that is available for me … therefore i focused all my senses on this… kept on reading books, reading online articles, watching tv news, series , documentaries, hearing music shows and doing all that i can to get to this level, which i’m proud to say is a close -to-native levels… it took so much efforts of me,,, i had to volunteer and work with internationals through the last 7 years , since i became a major of English at the university… i love English, and i’m learning something new about it everyday … still, it’s not enough to be in love with the language to get there… you have to work hard,

one advice i can give you for sure, search the net, and read as much as you can … that’s the key element to be a good translator… vary your options and all will be on your side

  • Rose. i had the same problem when i started translating espcially in meetings... your situation is easier because you only need to understand what they are saying in a general way.. details matter of course.. but these things take time. so just be patient and try to listen. listen and listen ...
  • Nida, thanks alot dear .
  • Hola Rana!!! Good blog, thank you for sharing.
  • Very nice blog!
  • Martha, Smith .. first my apologies as i haven't been on the website for months. i just saw your comments.. i studied English since i was 9 years old. I have never been to the UK, USA or any other English -Speaking countries. I read a lot of books too Martha, but if you want my advice speak to Native speakers. That will help you the most. you can capture the language more professionally and know how to get it right. i worked with internationals since i was on my 2nd year at the University. That really help alot. If you want to improve your language in a certain area like languages, medicine, teaching, engineering , read in those. watch news, documentaries, series, or even hear music in English . That can be the start and things just follows. Martha, I would love us to talk about improving my spanish for sure. i'm still a beginner.
  • Good writing!
You sound like a native English speaker and I wonder how you have managed to get to that high level of proficiency of English. Share more tips with us!
