The window

Today I got this message to my email adress in Hungarian,I will translate it to English as an exercise.Since it contains a nice message,I thought I will share it in a blog, thus I can practie my English too,at the same time.

The window

Two seriously ill people shared the same hospital room.

...One of them every day sit up in the bed for an hour,to motivate his body this way.

His bed was next to  the only window of the hospital room.

The other patient lied on his bed all day long, staring on at the ceiling.

They were talking of their families, their wives, their children, the time when they were soldiers-(it has been oligatory in my country to every men,to do a military service during a year time-but now this law was obliterated)-their holidays,as it is usual in similar situations.

Every afternoon, the man next to the window began to convey what was he seeing through the window from the outside world, when he had sit up in his bed.

The man lying on the other bed was kept alive only by those colourful narratives of his neighbour, this was the only diversity that scattered his monotony.

The window overlooked to a cosy little park, decorated with a little pond in the middle.
Wild ducks and swans were swimming about in the little pond, and children were playing with thier toy ships on the bank ofthe pond.
Lovers were sitting next to beds of colourful flowers during hours, mindful of one another.

Whilst the patient next to the window described the outer world with exhaustively in details, the other man closed his eyes visualizing the descripted scenery.

On a hot summer afternoon, the patient next to the window was talking about a carnival procession going through the park.

Although the constantly lying man didn't see and heard  the musicians,he could imagine them according to the sensual description of the other man.

Days and weeks were rolling by.
One morning the nurse, who was about to bath the patients, found the patient next to the window lifelessly,he has passed on quietly during the night.

The other patient felt an immense sadness, and when he had a chance,he begged the nurse to shift him into the bed, next to the window.

After he was left alone, slowly and painfully he turned over to the window to look outside, and suddenly he was stupefied to see:..............the window was facing a firewall.

He asked the nurse, that what could happen to the passed away patient, that he had pictured the outside world so nicely.
The nurse uncovered, that the man was BLIND,that's why he couldn't see the wall eiter.

-Probably he wanted to encourage you!-said the nurse to the patient.

Moral:

-The real happiness is  to make other people happy, not bothering with our own situation.

-To share our problems we can decrease them, but if we share our happiness with others,we can multiply it!

-If you want to feel rich yourself, count all those things in your life you can not buy with money!

-Every day is gift from life(God),so appreciate every day this way-because -although you may think you still have a plenty of time-but your days are terminate!!....

I wish you happy days!:)

  • Hello Mona,

I'm glad you liked it,you are right.

    Be welcome!:))

  • Hello Lynne!

You are right, because blind people "see" the world with their hearts.

I recall here the famous quote of one of mydear writer:

And now here is my secret, a very simple secret; it is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye.

  • I like the story Monika. They are so true. Sometimes, blind people can see more clearly than those people with eyesight who are pretending to be blind.

Thank you for sharing this soul enriching story.

    Good day!

    -Lynne-

  • Hello Fernando!

You said the biggest truth so far for me,because blind people see the world in another aspect, than most of 'unblind' people.

I think they concentrate more on the spiritual side and on feelings, not on the vision and external formalties,as many people do!

Thank you for your nice comment!

  • Thank you for your interest,Dr.Smith!

No,it's not my story,I just translated it from Hungarian to English,I don't know the author.

You are right,we tend to underestimate the things we have, until we don't lost it....

  • Salaam Talibah,

To translate stories is a great way to practice English,I think.

I'm eager to read your works.

    Greetings:

  • Amazing story! I wonder if you've actually created this story.

Yes, we should be thankful for what we already have. We tend to treasure things that we lost. I agree 'life is an attitude' - it depends on how you see it!

  • Thank you Salim for your nice comment, your oppinion contributes nicely to the moral of the story.

The positive attitude of the blind man made him forget his own handicapped nature,in the contrary, those people are even more willing to share love and are more love hunger...

  • Hello Anjana!
