I'm a nursing student. In my college, we learn about stunting and what action is needed to ensure a children enjoy optimal nutrition. Now, I want to share the role of nursing in handling stunting. Some factors that cause stunting include lack of food intake, the presence of infectious diseases, mother’s poor knowledge, wrong parenting, poor sanitation and hygiene, and low health service. What action is needed to ensure that children enjoy optimal nutrition? We could promote optimal nutrition thus need to start in the antenatal period, or even before. Efforts to promote optimal nutrition could be used strategically to improve women’s to access to food, health and care before and during pregnancy and lactation. Breastfeeding could against child malnutrition and newborn deaths. So, we could tell mothers and their families the importance of breast-milk and how it could protect them from a host of diseases and infection.
I've read somewhere that due to the high rate of childhood stunting in Indonesia, the government has started some programs to fight stunting. The role of the medical personnel including nurses is indeed very vital to the success of those programs. You guys have done a great job.
