Static sound. Subtle breaths. A deep sigh. Still silence.
He thought “WHAT IF”…
He just finished the project but it’s late. Yesterday was the deadline for it. Still, he will try if he can be considered. Anyway, he did the project a little late because he has an overload of works to do. A common scenario for students during the end of semester. And he did the project not just a requirement but with passion and heart. his teacher commended that value of his and considered his late project.
He missed the exam schedule yet he was given a special test. He could’ve failed but because of his teacher, he was saved.
But, what happened was…
His teacher denied his reasons. He was never heard, never considered, never pitied. He failed and did not get to the pedestal. He was left behind.
So he succumb himself to the shadows that linger upon him – isolated, denied.
It could have been averted; what to happen next. A single light could have prevented the massacre. A light of a teacher. a teacher who touches the life of his every student. That is one thing for sure. But how you touch them is dual. You either make or you break.
The moment a student enters school, the teacher is the greatest influence. He defines the achievements of his students. He puts them in an order where they should stand. One mark changes a student’s life.
As a teacher, you must be reflective. Think of your students first. They must be your first priority above all things. It must also be your objective that the moment your students step out of your classroom, they are better individuals with a positive view of life.
Students who end their life because of academic pressure are not to be blamed solely. Teachers are also a part of it. And I say that the moment a student ends his life because of mental pressure is a teacher’s worst pitfall.
A teacher is to provide light not to entail darkness. A teacher is to prepare students to real life, not to end it before it even starts.
One way to do it – simply be considerate.
