Speaking about religion in a so-called 'religious society' is no easy task. Therefore, one has to be prepared for some ready-made labels such as hypocrite, unbeliever, pagan, racist or even worse. Listening to a foreign radio station specialized in general knowledge and music, I found out that religion is also considered to be an indispensable part of the whole picture. Hence, one will come to listen to religious talks some of the time, if not most of the time. So, why is it all about religion despite the fact that the radio station itself is not dedicated to it? Perhaps, I am wrong for religion might be the first and last form of all knowledge, at least for a category of people. Here, I remember Karl Marx’s famous quote: “religion is the opium of the people.” In fact, some people just need to take, opium, sorry religion into account every time they are about to raise an issue or a topic. They are addicted to religious talks to the point that religion has become their eternal obsession. I assume that religion is the favorite topic of those people who have no issue to raise except that of religion. Actually, some of those people call themselves the experts of their field. They prohibit and allow whatever they want only in the name of religion. It has become their occupation which is by the way profitable. They live from, not for, religion. I cannot put it better than Voltaire who emphasized that when it is a question of money everybody belongs to the same religion. • I can understand why they were called "forbidden triangle".  These three controversial topics could elicit arguments and might be the source of great misunderstanding which would lead to a small bickering or a great war.

I have never seen a peaceful conversation in the main room when religion was chosen as a topic.  Once, I read from an article that if you asked a hundred people about religion, they would probably give you a hundred differing opinions.

To tag "religion" as an addictive topic is quite exaggerated.  Smart people try to avoid opening up this topic simply because they know the poor consequence of taking it into account.  So this is limited only to people of the same faith where "addictiveness" can be applied.  But try to expose religion to people of differing faith and they will be put into a pandemonic situation.

    Ironic, isn't it?

Congratulations, by the way..... You need to write more!  I love the way you choose your topic.  Mind boggling, hihihihi!

  • and for every superior there is an inferior and vice versa. I think something in the middle is always advisable. No excess no shortage.

  • Some people just let their religions to consume them. Some people consumed religions in order to look superior than others.

  • Wow, Masi, I fully agree with you!

  • Somehow, all religions share one core principle, that is, one's submission to an invisible supreme power, though known by different names and realized in different ways. As to the impact of religion on the way we behave, it's not only religion which exerts a kind of influence upon the way we see things and behave as well. Among many things, religion, good conduct, people and media make us conform, consciously or unconsciously. Even the question of whether good vs. evil is still debatable. Some people say it's innate and others say it's acquired. You see the nature of religion itself is complex and it's not easy to make generalisations about it. However, being religious does not mean one has to exclude irreligious people from the scene. This is totally wrong and is done, exclusively, by bigots as well as narrow-minded I think. After all, we're all human beings. We need to bridge the gap between us by emphasising our similarities and de-emphasising our differences. This way, I believe people will live in good harmony.

  • Unfortunately, some people don't believe in diversity. They want other people to be just like them. They don't appreciate differences. Life would be dull if all people are the same in terms of religion, beliefs.... I guess that bigots and narrow-minded people are likely not to tolerate diversity be it in religion or whatever. Therefore, one has to carry on and never look back. This is only about atheism let alone nihilism.

  • I was always thinking about religions how it works; if people really need to guide their live by it; do they have their own thinking and decision; is it right to do what religions preach without any health thought to ponder what is for what and follow it blindly because it is so. In my opinion, it is somewhere in the middle and to define it straighly could be wrong... and by the way the most of religions seems for me like opium for people, no way. It has strong force, but even without religions there is what could make people to stray from the path. So. It is question if it is good or bad (of course, rhetorical question). Now I got thought, are animals the believers...

  • Masi, your blog is awesome!!!! Actually, I agree with Marx but I think religious ppl have it all easier when it comes to death, they want to make all the best not to be punished. What about atheists who do their best too during their lives, just for no reason, but not in the name of any religion with knowing that death is their final destination. Isn't their life more complicated then? Aren't they brave enough even though all religious people take them as trash? Anyway, in my opinion people should tolerate each other and I have to admit that unfortunatelly religious people hardly respect atheists...that's my personal experience here on EC..
  • You're welcome Inna.

  • Sure, religion as profession brings money. It is not just a coincidence that religion and politics are side by side in this triangle. Priests were the first politicians in ancient times. And they still yearn for the lost power. Nice blog, Masinissa. Thanks for sharing.
