Tie a yellow ribbon to the old oka tree
I'm coming home, I've done my time
Now I've got to know what is and isn't mine
If you received my letter
Telling you I'd soon be free
Then you'll know just what to do
If you still want me, if you still want me
Tie a yellow ribbon around the old oak tree
It's been three long years
Do you still want me
If I don't see a ribbon around the old oak tree
I'll stay on the bus, forget about us
Put the blame on me
If I don't see a yellow ribbon around the old oak tree
Bus driver, please look for me
Cause I couldn't bear to see what I might see
I'm really still in prison
And my love she holds the key
Simple yellow ribbon what I need to set me free
I've wrote and told her please
Now the whole damn bus is cheering
And I can't believe I see
A hundred yellow ribbons around the old oak tree
This was a real story which happened in the 1960s in the USA. Have you ever watched Prison Break?
If you do, you will find a scene, when C-note broke the prison, he asked his wife to tie a yellow ribbon
around the tree near their home. I did remember I was moved here, and also I was so curious about
such a romantic action. But I didn’t know the behind story at that time. So I came to my EC and asked
Uncle Eric if he knew the story, but he didn’t watch Prison Break. Finally I found it out by myself. Let
me share with you.
In the 1960s, an American prisoner wrote a letter to his wife before he was released, in the letter he told
his wife he would be back soon, and he felt so sorry for the family that he wasn’t a good husband and
father. So if they could accept him, tie a yellow ribbon around the old oak tree near their house. The day
when he took a bus to his town, he was full of uncertainty and hope in his heart. So he told the driver, if
he saw a yellow ribbon when he would pass his town, stopped; if not, kept driving. When they arrived at
the town, the driver stopped and the prisoner saw their family as well as his neighbors all waiting there for
him, there were many yellow ribbons floating in the oak tree. They clapped and warmly welcomed the
prisoner. The driver was deeply moved, and soon he called the local media. Then this story spread fast all
around the states. Till now, people are still moved by the story, and it will keep spreading and moving
people.
