Four years later:

Nothing important had changed in the small village and the old man still lived outside of the village and worked at his farm. He was still alone but the kids were no longer afraid of him. They sometimes came to his house to play with the shaggy dog or to drink his very delicious homemade lemonade. When the boys asked him if he needed any help, he always said “no”. Despite his age, he was still a strong man.

The boy who had borrowed the books from the old man became a young man and left the village. He was the best in his class when he finished the high school. After he had passed the complicated entrance examination to join the medical school, he lived at the campus of the university in the main city of his area.
Before he left, he had asked the old man if he would give him some of his books for his study. The old man knew how expensive medical books were and he told the boy to take as many books as he wanted.

One day at the university, the young man noticed two students talking about one of the female professors. Her name was Caroline Black. The students talked about the case that had been happened many years before at the university hospital. Unfortunately, he was late to join the conversation.  So, he later asked his roommate what they had talked about because the guy had been one of the students talking about the professor.
"That's a hard thing", said the roommate. "Someone has heard her father was a very famous and popular professor and surgeon. Rumors say, one day after he had operated a patient, the patient died. One of his assisting surgeons accused him of having made a mistake. During a thorough inquiry professor Charles Forsite proved his innocence. It was in vain because the commission of inquiry believed the other doctor. The assisting surgeon said the professor had been using an unsterile scalpel during the surgery. Although no one had witnessed it and couldn't judge the professor, his reputation was destroyed.

The professor left the hospital, the university and even the city after his wife had left him with their daughter. His wife told him, he wouldn't see his daughter ever again in his life. People say, no one has seen him ever since. Some people say he committed suicide, others say he left the country but nobody has known it exactly, as yet.  But, as a matter of fact is, after the professor had disappeared, his wife married to the doctor who had blamed the professor." The roommate stopped talking.

"And then?" asked the young man from the village. "The professor’s ex-wife lived with the doctor and the professor's daughter lived with them, too. She did not remember her real father because she had been too young at that time. She studied medicine after she had finished the high school. When she began working her job as a professor here, at this university, nobody supposed the connection between her and the professor because her name wasn't Forsite."

"That's very strange," said the young man. "But how did it come out that professor Black is a daughter of professor Forsite?"

"If people are right, it was on the day when she got her Ph.D. Her mom came to join the ceremony. The man professor Black always believed to be her father, had been dead for two years.
Her mom told her the whole bad and unbelievably sad story. She not only told about the paternity but also confessed to her guilt. It had been a conspiracy. She and the doctor wanted to get rid of professor Forsite. The daughter was shocked and told her mother to leave. "Mom, I need some time to decide whether I can forgive you." she said. Later she told her mother she didn't want to see her anymore. Her mom died of cancer only one month later.
Professor Black started searching for her father. But it has been without success until now. That's all I heard about this case." The roommate finished his speech.

“It is not a piece of cake! Unbelievable!" said the young man. But he said nothing about his suspicions, he had already made a decision.

  • Dear Mishaikh, you will find the chapter two and chapter one on my blog.

  • Where are the other chapters Rose, I have missed them?

  • Hahaha, Danny, you are right I hardly believe it. But, as I know the native speakers here, I do not exclude it ... hahahha. Do you know? Sometimes I'm talking (by voice) with a Canadian. He's a native English speaker, poet, musician and lawyer and he dislikes when people don't use their language properly. He always tells me he likes the talks with me much more than to speak with his neighbors. He says they don't speak correctly and they have a bad vocabulary in their own language and they aren't able to express their mind.
Hahaha, he isn't as considerate and polite as you are when I make mistakes. He often says: " Hey idiot, speak correctly ..."  (just for example) I don't mind if he says so because I know it doesn't mean as evil and rough as it sounds. I am glad because he never ever had seen one of my written pieces. He would "kill" me!  Hahaha

  • Dear Danny, you can send me your explanations to my inbox if you don't mind.

Hahaha, be sure, I am not on the war with you. You got me right.

I really don't know why I am so hard with English grammar because, without to sound too arrogantly, I am an "expert" of German grammar and I have no understanding when natives don't use grammar correctly.

  • Dear Shadow, thanks so much for your comment. I see, you have read the story attentionally.

I am happy to know I am understandable though my grammar is not the best. Don't say always your English is poor. We are learners and we try as good as we can to communicate with others. It's already a big progress and success.
As for me, I don't give up even if I'm very disappointred to read how many mistakes I had again in one of my writings.

  • Dear Danny, I and the usage of tenses!!!! ... We are always on war. Of course I shall be grateful for your explanations.
