Today even the homepage of Google presents a very special image, because this is the proper time to observe the Perseids meteor shower. Indeed, though the period in which you can see them in the night sky extends from late July to about August 20, the "peak" for the probability to see them is exactly on the night of August 12. The Perseids shower happens because the Earth passes through debris from the Swift-Tuttle comet. The special logo that appears today on the homepage of GoogleIf you want more detailed information, you can refer to the NASA website, which also offers some advice for the best viewing.(Also published on patch.panel blog)
yes astronomy is indeed an interesting science. Many thanks for your kind words of appreciation ;)
Coming to the Perseids shower, well you do not need any instrument such as telescope or similar: the main point is to choose - if available - a place sufficiently dark, away from city lights, in order to have a good chance to observe some object from the stream. I found the following page can be of help: http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2009/31jul_perseids2009.htm
Hi friend,
Thanks for the information.Astronomy is very interesting science. You are so lucky to work on that.I like the view of stars and the moon especially in the time of eclipse .Can i ask you a question:Is the Perseids shower visible by eyes or we should use the telescope and in which time zones can we watch them? .
