The Markets

Evangelina wrote a comment in my blog: The Stark Beauty Of Nature - The Pinnacles And Lancelin; "I have a wish, I would really like to go to one place that is on the Heritage List of every country I visit and have a photo from here". I told her that I never thought to visit those kind of places, but then tt reminds me that in nearly every country I've ever visited, I always visit their famous markets. LOL

So here, I want to share with some of you market places that I've been to.

1. The Floating Market, Bangkok, Thailand

It's one of the must visit places in Bangkok. Though it becomes too touristy, it still retain some of its authenticity and local flavours. These kinds of floating markets are common in Thailand and really serve the local communities.

2. The Central Market (Mercato Centrale), Florence, Italy

You can't help from wanting to buy everything there is in the market. From fresh produce, to dried products. Though we, my friends and I, faced a language barrier, we don't speak Italian, we managed to buy a few fresh fruits.

3. Bunburry Farmers Market, Perth, Australia

I had to admit that my friends and I were went a bit crazy when we visited this market. Every thing looked so delicious. Since we stayed in an apartment during our stay in Perth this time round, we bought fresh produce to cook, and I bought all kinds of fruits. I just went a little bit nuts. LOL

4. The Night Market, Malaysia

The night market is very common in Malaysia. Normally it starts as early as 5pm and ends around 10pm. Normally it happens once every week at various residential areas. You can get all kinds of things from fresh produce, dairy products, accessories, dress and other stuff. I love visiting these kinds of markets to get fresh produce and food. (sorry for the not so sharp images. LOL.)

For me, visiting a local market when I was in a foreign country was like immersing a lit bit of myself in the local culture. It's the cheapest and easiest way to know the local. Maybe you can share with others about your local market.

  •      Wooow dearest!!! Thanks for sharing these awkward markets with us. 2643977901?profile=original

  • Hi Evangelina ... I always wonder how people pronounce my nick. Hahahaha

Though I don't like crowded places too, but I think markets are unique in a sense that we can absorb the atmosphere and be part of the crowd for a few minutes. Furthermore, normally people who went to the markets have objectives and focus, rather than just meandering around like some people who went to shopping complexes.

Once again, thanks for somehow you will always aspire me to write. Hugsssssssss ....

  • Hi Sindra, yes, I was fortunate to be able to visit a few countries. But I need to visit more. LOL. Thanks.

  • Batuhan, well, I hope one day I will visit Turkey and visit your street markets. :)
  • Haha Estanis, I know Patpong, and honestly I don't like the atmosphere. I thought the traders just wanted to swindle gullible tourists.
Awww! You're making me want to visit your not-so-interesting local market. LOL. I wonder what are you trying to hide from all these annoying tourits? Hahaha
As for writing my travel story, I hope I have the energy to write in the future. :)
  • Arisha, I'm glad that you had a good experience when you visited the night market. Sometimes some traders tend to put higher prices when they see tourists.
  • AG, I wish I will be able to visit that wonderful market. It sounds really wonderful.
  • Risty, when I was younger and just started working, I don't have the budget to travel. Now, I make an effort to put aside some saving for my travel. I know if I want to see the world, I need to make that effort, otherwise I will not going anywhere.
  • Luci, it's really interesting just for a while that you can be part of local culture. Sometimes I just love people watching, and not buying anything. Maybe one day I will be somewhere in the Czech. :)
  • Thank youuuuu for sharing Noas!! And thanks to Evan too for inspiring you to write it :D

As you well say, visiting markets it's a good way to involve yourself in local society. I remember so well the one in Bangkok, actually it was the one that most amazed me, surely because it's the most different to the ones I'm used to. I also remember its night market 'Patpong' where you could buy everything, and I mean 'everything' lol... well I just bought a fake Rolex watch :D

As for the market in my town I tell you it has nothing special, even I haven't visited it in many years so no need to go there if you ever come haha...
Please don't get tired of writing about your travels o.k.? It's also a cheap way of traveling for us :D
