The messenger said, “God has taken away your sin. You are not going to die but because by doing this you have shown utter contempt for God, the son born to you will die.”

Immediately after the messenger had gone home, the King’s son became ill, the King pleaded to God for the child, he fasted and spent the nights lying in sackcloth on the ground. The elders of his household stood beside him to get him up from the ground, but he refused, and he would not eat any food with them, he continuously beseeches God.

After a week, the child died. The King’s attendants were afraid to tell him that the child was dead, for they thought, “While the child was still living, he wouldn’t listen to us when we spoke to him. How can we now tell him the child is dead? He may do something desperate.”

The King noticed that his attendants were whispering among themselves, and he realized the child was dead. “Is the child dead?” he asked.

“Yes,” they replied, “he is dead.”

Right after he heard the reply, the King got up from the ground. He took a bath, put lotions and changed his clothes, he went into the house of God and worshiped. Then he went to his own house, and at his request, they served him food, and he ate.

His attendants asked him, “Why are you acting this way? While the child was alive, you fasted and wept, but now that the child is dead, you get up and eat!”

He answered, “While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept. I thought, ‘Who knows? The Lord may be gracious to me and let the child live.’  But now that he is dead, why should I go on fasting? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me.”

Then the King comforted his wife, and he went to her and made love to her. She gave birth to a son; the son will be the wisest King in the whole human history.

The end.

Moral Story: Indeed, there is not a righteous man on earth who continually does good and who never sins. -Ecclesiastes. 7:20

Not to justify what the King had done, but to consider that we are humans, we have flesh and all human being has their own desire, God understand our lapses and shortcomings because He knows from where we were created,  the dust of the soil. He sees us through, transparent and we cannot hide anything from His keen eyes. He looks to our intentions. The King didn’t intend to spot a naked woman, didn’t intend to feel that way, it is to his weakness that leads him to commit a sin. God is not a respecter of any humans, in His eyes; we are all equal, whether you are a King, Soldier or servant. Even though He loves us, He is ready to reprimand us to further prove His love, for us to learn and realize our mistakes. He is a fair God and a forgiving God. No man will stand and claim that he is completely good, that he is perfect and never commit a single sin in his whole life, no one.

The story was inspired by verses in the Bible, 2 Samuel11:1-26- 2 Samuel 12:1-24.

  • Hmm... I hoped that the son would be safe in the end. This is what we say in my country: The sins of the parents are torturing their children.

Thanks for the story, Risty. It was interesting and with a moral.

    :)

  • Dear Vangie, thank you for following my little story and liking the same. Yes, I know Manga drawings. It’s an otaku way of drawing. Hehe! Are you into it? I’ve been doing that during high school days, apparently, my interest to draw lessens as the days gone by, though I’m still watching animes.

  • Dear Elen, Enjoy your vacation. Take care. Happy holidays and Advance Happy 2017.

  • Dear Sewar, I will stick to the moral lesson that no man can stand and claim he never sinned in his entire life, even if a person tries hard to be completely good, he will surely encounter hardships and troubles. What is important is our intentions, if we aim to sin or if we are only victims of our weakness. Best wishes to you too.

  • Risty, I didn't read the end yet. It is Christmas time and I will go on vacations for some days. But I will come and read it when I am back in daily routine. :)

  •         My friend, our life is always bristling with thorns, so, sometimes, our hands bleed with one or two, maybe more, of these thorns. But at last, our God is merciful. My best wishes for you.

  • Thanks, Ate Ada! We were forgiven by God many times than we forgive other people. God is love indeed. :)
