I was reading an article about how Prince Harry visited Angola and how he was sad that after 25 years there are still a lot of landmines left scattered in Angola. He was irritated that the Companies that supplied those landmines in the first place did not do enough to help clearing them.

Reading this article made me read more on the work done by the HALO Trust. The HALO Trust had work tirelessly and endlessly in destroying various landmines in many countries devastated by wars. These countries faced and still facing the devastation and impact on those wars because of the landmines and unexploded ordnance.

The danger of landmines came into the thrust of international attention by the work of the late Princess Diana. She managed to put the limelight to the danger of landmines and the tedious and hard works done to destroy them.

In Angola, ordinary people still facing daily threat of death or injury by landmines. Most of them cannot resume normal lives, even after 25 years the end of the civil wars. The same happens in Cambodia and Loas. Ordinary people get maimed and or died because of landmines. The price of wars is being paid by future generations, and definitely still stutter the growth of the economy of these countries.

The question is, shouldn't the Companies that supplied and still supplying these landmines be held responsible in cleaning up the wreckage that they partly responsible? Shouldn't they put some, maybe a big fund, to help the innocent people and help the work and volunteers of the HALO Trust?

  • My dear  sewar, you are right when you said the word "LOSSES" is not and will not be found in the Companies which are making and selling these landmines. They will not stop making and selling this horrible products, nor will they give some funds to remove the landmines. It's the saddest truth.

  •         OOOOOOh my dear, what a touchable topic!!!!!   Really it made me speechless and unable to write a comment but, I will try. After Princess Diana death, there was a big roomer which is; Princess Diana's efforts at the Halo Trust caused hear death. A very famous character like  Princess Diana works in this field will bring many problems and disadvantages to the companies which make and sell landmines. Anyway my dear, the word, losses, will not found at these kind of companies dictionary, so, how they stop selling their dear magic product, the landmines. And they will not pay money to hire officers to remove the landmines.  I hope I cleared my viewpoint. God bless you my dear and your family as well.

  • Yes Expector Smith, it has to do something with money and profit. Sad but I think that's the truth.

  • Yes, money has something to do with war!

  • Hi Expector Smith, yes, if there is no such thing as war! And if there's no such things as Companies befitting from wars!

  • Dear nida, you are right, of course. Those Companies will never ever take the responsibilities of what they had done. It's sad. Why can't UN comes up with some sort of legislation to ban their usage, or at least make those Companies take responsibilities? But I guess, you and I know the reason why.

  • If only there were no such thing as war!

  • I believe that companies responsible would never ever take the responsibility to clean up the wreckage. In my very personal opinion, the most effective measure would be to stop companies from manufacturing landmines and absolutely banning their usage. I know what I said is impossible..but still I wish it happens one day! :)

  • Hi Vieettt, it is sad indeed when innocent people and children got hurt due to these landmines. I hope one day, your Country will be free from these landmines.

  • It's such a grim truth. Some provinces in my country are  still facing with dangers of landmines every day. Even residents also dig for them as their daily bread. Children have been killed only because they play around places landmines hiding.
