The parting of ex-President Corazon Aquino abruptly uncovers and accentuates a set of standard by which an aspirant for the presidency may be measured. Her death brought about an unconscious transformation that leads to a unanimous and indisputable perception that when she had separated herself from the oligarchy it was easier for her to live a life that displayed and mirrored some traits that truly reflects that what is innate to the ordinary Filipinos themselves. Her sincerity was beyond reproach. Her tenacity and courage that evidently was drawn from a deep faith in GOD was unimaginable to extraordinary. Her kindness, genuine and undiscriminating concern for others became more evident and self-validating even long after she had left public office. Her motherhood to her children and the Filipinos as well was never short of being praised. She had lived by the highest standard of honesty, morality, humility and integrity both in and out of public service. Her devotion and faithfulness to her husband and his ideals were displayed in prominence even until her last days. The question as to whether these traits or just some of it are visible or existing in the crop of political luminaries who will take a shot at the presidential seat in the 2010 election is something for the Filipinos to answer. Nonetheless, and the fact remains, these traits should necessarily be in the person of the next President of the Republic of the Philippines if it is to survive as one whole nation to say the least. Indeed, the transformation of a conscientious people must and should manifest.Requiem, President Corazon Aquino.. we hold high esteem for you.
