Tasteless liquid: Water

I don’t know why they always telling me about the importance of drinking water each day. My mother nor my grandmother and even school teachers. And since water has no flavor, I admit, I wasn’t so interested in it and consequently, developed the habit of drinking far less than my body needed. I remember when I was in second grade, I complained about a sudden pain in my stomach. I suffered from diarrhea and high fever. Mama told me I collapsed – from dehydration as it turned out –and woke up in a hospital. Then someone, perhaps a doctor or a nurse, got around to giving me advice about the importance of drinking water. And since drinking plenty of water was not part of my daily routine, I decided I needed a reminder. Since then, Mama made a note on our mirror, with the hours listed from the time I have breakfast –at six –until two or three in the afternoon. And I check off each hour when I take a drink. And I still do those -3 years later, because I still don’t trust myself to voluntary drink a glass of water every hour. And the reason for that is: as a child, I am fund of playing my gadgets and as a student, studying, I forget everything else. So I have learned to keep that note in a place I often see it, which forces me to get up, get a drink, and check off the hour, until I reach the recommended eight to 10 glasses a day.
I now understand the message about the importance of water given to me by my loved ones. Good health practices have been given a lot of publicity in the past few decades, even on the internet, which no doubt include the importance of this daily ritual. And if, like me, you don’t think much of the taste of plain drinking water, you can add a slice of lemon, or a drop of honey syrup, or even vanilla flavoring. Put any flavor you like as long as it will encourage you to take your daily dose.
If you watch athletes being interviewed on television, you will notice that they usually have a bottle of water in their hands, or gallons of water nearby, to refresh themselves between feats of exertion. The body craves water, especially when you are exercising. And you must listen to what it tells you, and drink the amount of water you need, in order to remain healthy and feel good.

  • Yes, doctors may advise you to drink a lot of water, especially when you catch a cold.

I doubt if it's really necessary to drink that much water, though - too much water may not be a good idea.

Those who keep drinking water during work may be suffering from dibetes.
