Day 5 : Sightseeing in Berlin

Here, you can find two kinds of public transport system for railway, U-Bahn and S-Bahn. Find more information of the system please click here.

If you intend to travel abroad by yourself, particularly in a non-speaking English country, make sure you have a good sense of direction and clear map with your mother tongue or English in hand. Or, you can do as me to go with a person who is good at both of those things.

We lived near station Heinrich-Heine-Str. and had to take U/S-Bahn to Alexanderplatz to go sightseeing. Don't take a risk not to buy a ticket even if you don't see the ticket inspector in the station to check tickets before entering the carriage. You still have to buy the ticket at the automatic ticket vending machine

and then put in the ticket here to be stamped with the related information.

This is one of stations of S-Bahn.

One bakery at the station, they look mouthwatering...

Before we started the city tour, we went to a restaurant for brunch.

This egg roll was the biggest one I have ever had.

There are many options of Berlin City tour you can choose. Here is a video introducing one of the tours. During the tour, you can see many attractions like Berlin Cathedral, New Guard House, TV-Tower, Berlin wall , Checkpoint Charlie and so on. If the attraction you want to visit, ask the driver to let you get off the bus.

It is on the second floor of the bus.

There has ten kinds of languages allowed to gudie us.

Berlin Cathedral

It is really magnifical, gorgeous and extraordinary architecture no matter its outside or inside. I felt myself extremely tiny in front of it.

Sculptures, pillars, rooftops, walls, windows and each part of it are all astonishing, detailed and impressive. If you are a history or architecture lover, it's the right place to go.

You can also buy a ticket of EUR 3 to visit the inside from the bottom to the top of the Cathedral to overlook the city of Berlin.

We spent too much time taking pictures in the Cathedral so the rest of the attractions we almost visited on the bus.

Berlin's symbol is a bear.

Checkpoint Charlie

KaDeWe, the biggest department store in Europe.

There are more than thousand kinds of cheese and sausage in the department store.

chocolate with exquisite decoration

Potsdam Square/ Sony Center

The square are so beautiful decorated with an ornament like big umbrella on the roof.

We had our dinner here.

meat ball, meat, sausage and some vegetables

If you are a vegetarian, don't worry. In Europe, you can also find some dishes served with salad with potato or cheese in some restaurants. And, some of them may provide menu in English or even in your language.

Brandenburg Gate , the last attraction we visited for that day was one of famous landmarks for Berlin and Germany.

  • Hahaaa...hush...please, please don't tell anyone that missing piece of the wall was brought back by me, otherwise I will not be able to visit there again. ^_^
  • Grace, don't tell me you took the missing piece of the wall that we see on your photo !!! Are you kidding me ? Hahahahah, i can't believe it !

  • Dear Forget-me-Not,

You remind me of Berlin wall. Here, please look at below, I did bring one big piece of it home. ^_^ The gift your friend gave you I also saw in many shops for souvenir. On the time, I would like to buy some, but doubt whether they are real walls or not. Instead bring the piece of wall, I bought some postcards and the magnet of Brandenburger Tor.

  • Ohh, this cathedrale is amazing ! You know, i don't live so far from Berlin and though i know it is said to be a beautiful city, with great art museum, i have never been there yet ! Ohh, you know, when the wall fell in 1989, one of my friends was there and, as a gift, he brought me a little piece of that historic wall.

Once again you did a great job about Berlin. Thanks

  • Dear Syubi,

I am very surprising and touched that you read my posts carefully even the text in German on that photo you didn't miss it that all means so much to me. I deeply hope that you can also visit there oneday and  share your experience with your friends too. Since two of my families are living there, so I had the chance to go.

For " Ich hab dich lieb", you are good at guessing. I checked the dictionary that says having no choice but to love you. Quite romantic!

Thanks agin, Syubi for your detailed comment. When I have the next one, I'll keep you posted.

  • Oh Graaaaaaaaaaaaaace ;(

:O I am amazed! Now I am so jealous at you, I am seeing all these pictures with teary eyes!! Not exagerating :p I really am. How I wish to go there now. You took a lot of wonderful pictures about German's landscape also food :D

I love to see those chocolates, pastry, omelettes but I don't think I will try to eat those sausages though it looks tempting :S I am afraid they are pork meat that's why heheh.

I read a text in one of those chocolates, "Ich hab dich lieb". I am guessing that mean "I have your heart"? Sounds sweet lol ^^

And for the guide in the bus, I think I will listen to all the languages they provide just to know how does it sounds lol but my fav will be in English, French, Japanese and of course Germany just because I am in Germany :p lol

Mwah mwah mwah, thanks for these pictures Grace and thanks for the link to your blog. So nice to see it. Looks like you have captured everything in Germany. You even upload a ticket here lol. You know what? I also have a picture of a train ticket to Koln. My friend sent it to me because he thought I didn't believe that he went to Koln :D :D
