Winnie-the-Pooh

In August 1914 Lt.Harry Colebourn purchased a young bear cub for $20 at a train stop in Ontario, Canada. Colebourn named the bear ‘Winnipeg’ Winnie’ for short, after his home city of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Colebourn brought Winnie to England. Before leaving for France Colebourn left Winnie at the ‘London Zoo’. Winnie was one of the attraction in London Zoo. Winne was much loved for her playfulness and gentleness and she was fed honey through out day many times.

One of her fans was A.A. Milne’s son Christopher Robin. Who named his teddy bear ‘Winnie the pooh’. He is the one inspiration for his father’s story about ‘Winnie-the-pooh’.

Winnie died at the London Zoo in 1934 at the age of 20. Winnipeg’s skull was kept after her death in the Odontological Museum at the Royal College of Surgeons Hunterian Museum in London.

A recent examination of the skull shows that she suffered from chronic periodontists and inflammation and loss of connective tissues supporting or surrounding the teeth. Which can be caused by poor diet such as the honey Christopher Robin  and other people feeding the animal. Many pictures shows that the bear enjoying eating honey.

The average five-year old consumes the equivalent of their body weight in sugar in the course of a year according to health officials. (the telegraph).

In my School most of the children when they starts School, they come with a bottle of sugary drink, chocolates, candy, crisps and unhealthy lunch. But we got a healthy eating policy. Parents are being urged to take control of their children’s eating habits. Some parents are not happy, and they try to say, 'but my child wont eat any other food, I don’t have any other choice I have to give it to him/her what he/she wants'. So I was decided to tell my parents about the Winnie the pooh story and its seems works and children were coming with more fruits and vegetables now.

Thousands of children age between five and nine years old were admitted to hospital with dental problems and diabetes. Many children are obese or overweight. Children are having too much sugar, three times the maximum recommended amount. It's our responsibility to keep the little one's healthy.

Dear friends, Thank you so much for taking your time reading. I appreciate it. If you are a parent please reduce your children’s fruit juice, fizzy drinks, smoothies, sweets and chocolates. Stay happy and Healthy!

Please share your valuable thoughts, opinions and suggestions. You are much appreciated. Thank you

I start to read about Winnie after they display her skull in London. I was so sad. I wrote about it. Because of my work load I couldn't post any thing. This week I determine to spend time leaning here.

    Thank you sweetheart!

  • Dear Adaline. Your blog is of great significance to the health of the next generation. Thank you for sharing it.

There is a book which I think came from the future to tell us some TRUTH about nutrition. (Although the name of the book is The China Study, but I am sorry to tell that in modern society most of us have joined the unhealthy diet camp.) Promise me that google it at least. It will be very helpful.

  • I never thought that honey could be harmful to the bears. Most of my childhood stories claimed that the bears felt happy and healthy after eating lots of honey. Haha.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful post here, dear Adaline. I loved the story and the message you have conveyed through it. Good luck with your teaching and stay blessed.  :)

  • Dear Mr. dara gino, Thank you for taking your time reading and comment. I appreciate it. Good to know about your zoo visit. Is that Zoo near your home? You are lucky.

  • Dear noaslpls, I love your comment. You are absolutely right children eating too much sugary food and not doing any physical activity. Health and Human services says children and adolescents age 6 and older need at-least one hour physical activity per day.

In my School we take children for a walk or we allow them to play outside. I encourage children to run around and play. I know they are not getting enough at home. Most of them don't have enough space or no garden. The only place they can run around is School ground.

Like you, we had a lovely childhood too always playing with friends in the woods, because we live near the mountain and the big forest. Missed every thing now. But I go for a walk in the park near my home.

Thank you for taking your time reading and leaving your valuable thoughts I appreciate it sweet heart.

  • Spasibo Winnie the pooh! I like teddy bear. I used to go to the zoo every Friday to see it.
  • Children nowadays are eating too much sugary foods like you've mentioned in your blog, but to make it worst, they spent too much time indoors with their electronic gadgets as compared to children, lets just say, 20 years ago. I remember when I was a kid, I spent most of my waking hours outdoor, playing all kind of games. My Mom had to scream at my sister and I to come back and eat our lunch or when in the evening, to come back home.

Children should be encouraged to spend more time playing outdoor games, rather than just watching tv or playing with their electronic gadgets.

  • Dear lovely MARY, Thank you for taking your precious time reading and leaving your lovely comment. I appreciate it. You explained it well about the fructose and corn syrup. I was so sad too when I read about the Winnie bear cub and its mum was died when she was younger and then she smuggled to London. Such a shame still those things happening.

Than you sweet heart. Your comments always seems, ideas for another blog.
