I was warned that somebody posed as me (Expector) in the chat room a few days ago. That's so annoying and intolerable. I wonder why they did that - they may have found it's fun to pretend to be someone, or they did it on purpose - just to cause trouble. I've noticed that so many members complained about the situation in the chat room. Some members even left MyEC since they find some trolls' (or bad apples' or bad guys' or whatever you call them) misbehavior in the chat room is so unbearable. Sorry for an otherwise perfect chat room. That can be a problem. Thanks for all of those members who helped bring the problem to the admin's attention. In fact, some members have already assisted in finding a solution to it, which I appreciate so much.
As you know, I've never visited the chat room. That doesn't mean I don't think the chat room is a good place to practice English. I just need to find time to chat with you there. A chat room can be a great place to improve your English, but can also be a nightmare when there're some unpleasant guys flirting or harassing around.
Let's help the admin to tackle the problem and make good use of the chat room.

If I were on your place, I would have done the same (Writing a blog to warn other members).
I believe since we've an option ignore, no one should have any problem in chat room. Perhaps some people are not handy with it?
If you don't feel like talking with someone just ignore him/her, that's it.
To be honest I've notice many gossip in EC chat room, people are sharing their ideas to control such incidents to be happened.
For God sake you're not children, if you can't deal with such situation on your own how would you survive in real world. Just ignore the person that's it.

In the two years that I've been visiting EC, it's been my observation that this site has a way of weeding out the jokers, flirts, and trolls very quickly and efficiently. The good members here tend to be proficient at reporting and using the ignore button. With that being noted, It'd be an injustice to any new member that was trying to log in for the very first time to think we all behave like the culprit or culprits responsible for prompting you to write your latest blog addition.
To all members, please ban together to keep main chat a fun and enriching experience for learners, teachers, and native speakers alike. Let's keep those trolls confined to the bridge they belong under.
hello inspector! i've seen that incident, im there when it happened...that troll made an id like yours and same with the profile picture you have. he abused some of the members who were active on the room that time. i've never seen u on the main room even once so i know it isnt you at all. trolls upgrade themselves these days by cloning ec member's ids. and i wont get surprised when they will make an id just like mine too. its just sad that most of the time trolls are more active in the room than some good members, so maybe this is the time that members who really want to learn and want to help others in practicing their english skills must have to be more active on the room so the main will be like it was before. nice blog :D
I think it was his tactic to make other members and even moderators to be banned. The troll was pretending to be other member as well.
Two or three years ago, a member came to me in private. He told me that he got an information that some troublemakers wanted to create a fake account using my username and profile pic.
Then, one would intentionally make problems while he or she was pretending to be me. While the others would make a report. But the member who told me couldn't provide proofs, so I didn't make a report.
After the incident when the troll pretended to be you, a member asked me in the main room what would happen if someone hacked my account and used my profile to chat in the main room and using the same chat style.
This is why it's important to provide URL of the reported member if anyone wants to make a report.
This is not the first instance of reported chat room problems in recent weeks. There should be a way to rid the world of such people. If not the world, I hope we can rid our chatroom. We have moderators working hard to keep thing working. We must support them and maybe we need to give them more powers to detect "fake" members.
If people knew that their real identity would be published and connected with their bad deeds, they would behave. It is only because we don't know exactly who they are, that they misbehave.
