Slang Word of the Day

I am new here and have been looking at all of the interesting things this site has to offer. I have found several things that will help me teach English.

So today I discovered the Word of the Day and in that area, there was the Slang Word of the Day. The Slang word for today is Dope. What was the correct answer for what a dope is? An idiot or stupid person.

But I can think of 2 more meanings for the word dope. Can anyone guess them?

Dope also means information on somebody or something which is not generally known.

Dope is substance used to stop leakages when you are fixing taps or gate valve weather GI or PVC pipe

Mr Bob got it. I used to work in the oil fields of Texas to pay my first trips to Europe. We put Dope in pipe threads or on the hole in the middle of the drilling table.

1- a drug taken illegally for recreational purposes

2- very good

A sealant or glue: the material used to seal the threaded ends of metal pipe and later PVC plastic pipe (pipe dope). Also the glue or sealant used to coat and help secure the fabric of airplane bodies and wings in the days when airplanes were mostly wood and cloth.

Another usage I've encountered is for soda pop or soft drinks in the Deep South of the US. Every time I heard this I was in very rural areas of Louisiana or Mississippi and the term was used in requesting a soft drink of any brand. "Give me a dope", was used the same way as people may say give me a coke. The primary users of this word were elderly black men. I did hear a few younger people use the word that way too. This was in the mid-1970's.

Good job Noaslpls, that's one. Dope is used as a slang word for illicit drugs in general and a drug fiend of course would be someone on drugs. Now what is the other?
