Then I was a 5 or 6 year old girl. Little and naive! One evening   my brother and I went to my grandpa's house. There we found my middle  uncle got a pet. It was a little dog with chain on.

We were surprised and mesmerized to see such a little creature. I asked my  granny its name and many more questions. But, I couldn't say when it scratched on one of my legs!  And, I forget whereas there was only scratch or blood came out. I told my granny but as I was not a big girl like today so, did not became panic at all.

Then, my granny cleaned my leg with  liquid antiseptic and sent me at home. And, filled my mother with every details. But, I did not get jabs ( injections)!

After many years, my brother ( then he was a big boy) went to my grandpa's house. Unfortunately, same thing happened. My  uncle's another little pet scratched on his leg. What a coincident!

That pet was also very little. But,  now we knew that people should take jabs in this circumstances. So, my brother went to see a doctor.

The doctor was our relative. He told my brother to have jabs. Though the pet was not sick and it was tame but, what if its parents got any life threatening diseases ( like hydrophobia)?

Yes, my brother took injections( full course). And, everything was okay.

p.s. hydrophobia is a life threatening disease. People should see doctors if they get dog bites or scratches.

  • Dear Afro! I, too, am very sorry about your and your brother's bad experience with pets. Actually, only hydrophobia is lethal for people as well as for other living creatures. But it is so easy to avoid it vaccinating our pets and not communicating with stranger pets who look sick or aggressive, just in case.

I'd like to tell you, both Tanya and I have been having pets all our lives and we have never had any health problems because of that. You may know that dog's saliva is like anticeptic. If it scratchers you and licks the wound you are already safe if the dog is healthy

  • Good advice Afro. That's why all pets should be vaccinated and identified.

    Thanks for your story! :)
  • Sorry. Rabies
  • Thanks, seeker
Bala, thanks a lot to ask me. Hydrophobia is the oldest term of rabis. Aactually it is the last part of that infection and the infected person dears to drink water.
  • Dear Afro, Well written real life experience. I enjoyed reading sweet heart. Thanks for sharing. Do you have any pet now?
