We, Vietnamese, have been celebratory days (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2013). Because the celebration of this year falls on Tuesday and the sequential day is the Labor Day, therefore; we have an occasion that is much longer than usual. It is about 5 days from last Saturday to Wednesday of this week. Some of companies still force their staff to work on Monday, though. We have raised the national flag of Vietnam everywhere these days for celebrating.
This day 38 years ago, National Liberation Front (Viet Cong) and North Vietnamese troops captured Saigon (now Ho Chi Minh City), liberated South Viet Nam and reunified the whole country. The event marked the end of the Vietnam War that prolonged 30 years of Vietnam's history last century. This period of history was counted from 1945 that the president, Ho Chi Minh, read the Declaration of Independence of Vietnam (on 2 September 1945.)
After 1975, there were a series of border clashes between the People's Republic of China and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam following the Sino-Vietnamese War in 1979. These border clashes lasted from the end of the Sino-Vietnamese War in 1979 until 1990. We also suffered heavy losses from these conflicts.
We fought against much more powerful forces such as China, Japan, French colonialism, US imperialism. WE WON! I always remember a quotation of Martha Gellhorn, one of the greatest war correspondents of the 20 century:
"America has made no reparation to the Vietnamese, nothing. We are the richest people in the world and they are among the poorest. We savaged them, though they had never hurt us, and we cannot find it in our hearts, our honor, to give them help—because the government of Vietnam is Communist. And perhaps because they won."

nidα Thanks so much. I have a remaining day for relax and I spend it roaming in EC.
Happy celebrations to you and all your country people, I am Vietnamese! :)
Enjoy your holidays! :)
Anele, noaslpls, nana Thanks so much for reading my blog.
Anele: Yes, my country is one of communist countries in the world. If I am not wrong, this system currently contains 5 countries: China, Cuba, Laos, North Korea and Vietnam. As I mentioned above, 30 years is the period that is counted from 1945. You know, the history of Vietnam is one of the longest continuous histories in the world and we went through almost years of war in our existing history. I believe that no one wants war to break out in his country. It is too gruesome, horrible, painful,... We were forced into joining those battles by invaders. It's actually is called " Victory Day", " Reunification Day" or " Liberation Day". Also, Vietnam's Independence Day is on September 2... Anyway, Thanks for your wish. I am happy to hear that you helped Vietnamese refugees, thanks for your kindness!
Regarding the major exam, I didn't see my name in your questions, therefore; I fell sad to submit my answers ( hehehe... just kidding). Good luck to me.
Noaslpls: I have still collected information to write a blog about Vietnam haha, I am a granny snail. I'm really lazy these days.
