My Addiction Destroyed Me!

It's always easier to resist in the beginning than at the end!

I found this quote on internet and it seemed pretty much true to me.

I guess we can easily quit any bad habit or unwanted thing towards which we get attached to in the beginning. Because once if we get used to such unwanted things or habits it could/would be difficult for us to get rid of it. So a wise decision is to quit any unwanted thing in the beginning cause it's always easier.

I would like to share my personal experience pertaining to this quote:

I was not fond of songs or music but when I promoted to grade 6th I met a new friend. She was a nice girl but she was addicted to songs and music. She used to sing all day long. As I was in her company I started to listen songs day and night. I didn't knew in the beginning that I'm getting addicted to it. My mother noticed my addiction and very politely she tried to convince me to let go this habit. Listening to songs never seemed harmful to me and I argued with her many times. She alarmed me about the dangers of this addiction. But I didn't noticed that I'm already the victim of this addiction. After few days my mother noticed that I'm getting weaker in studies day by day. She asked me about my poor marks and remind me about my addiction. I couldn't tolerate my bad results and tried very hard to quit this addiction but, I failed. That day my mother remind me about my addiction and said "Excessiveness of any thing can lead you towards destruction". And than I realized that she was right. It was easy for me to resist my addiction in the beginning but I didn't noticed that and suffered a lot.

It may sound weird or silly to some people but it is a serious problem for me as I lost my enthusiasm in my studies due to that addiction.

We all have some addictions but maybe we are too busy to notice them. I am grateful to my mother that she took me out from it so wisely. She didn't forced me but let me experience it all by myself. So that I could learn from it and be aware of such things or addictions in future as well.

I can control myself now, I know when to stop and when to ignore. I learned that prevention is better than cure.

  • Yep Reeyaz I agree with you!!!

  • Nice Blog.. Addiction is the serious problem... we always should know what is the right time to quit habits before getting addicted to it. Otherwise you will have to go through the hard path, deny & torture yourself to get rid of it.

  • Thanks everyone for your suggestions, compliments and attention towards my blog. :)

Certainly listening songs can never become a bad addiction due to which one suffer from any kind of loss but, it influenced me as I was hardly 14 or maybe 13 at that time.

We all know that the beginning of a teenage is really sensitive period, and a kid go through so many things in his teenage. So that happened with me. Excessiveness leads me towards poor marks. :)

  • strangy what you doing here shaking your body or face LOL

  • what can I say? Just not bad:)

  • Very nice blog! You are absolutely wright that in beginning we can’t realize that we are going towards addiction of anything when we realize the time has been gone. I also agreed with jai that music is not an addiction but “excess in anything is bad”.

  • I appreciated you wrote truth bravely ! Hardly anyone has guts to write the truth here.

  • I love music. I cannot live without it, but listening music and music and doing nothing else is wrong there should be some gap in things we do.

You started listening music on someone's request

and then You stopped listening it on someone's request. I request you to develop and cultivate your own hobbies.

Once you have real interest for them, they are true healers for you.

  • Anah dear, be happy it was "just" music..I mean sth what didn't have bad effect on your health like drugs, cigarretes etc. Anyway.. since it influenced your study..it stopped being fun. Would like to point out that your mom is really great that she helped you to realize it all..thanx for sharing, maybe on the basis of your blog some ppl will realize that they are addicted to reading anah's ® blogs ;)
  • Addictions are bad.

I never thought that anyone could listen to music so much that it hurt their studies.  Maybe it was the kind of music you listened to.

Studies have shown that some music is very beneficial to learning. Learning songs in a foreign language is something many people do to help their language study because speech and music use different parts of the brain.

People remember the words to songs better than they do words without music. The Alphabet song is a good example if you know that song. Even in Saudi Arabia where music is frowned on, I found that if I asked someone about the alphabet (for example,  what comes after H in the alphabet) they would sing the alphabet song to the point that the came to the letter they were trying to remember. This is also common in English speaking countries. If we learn something that has been put to music, we remember it better and when it comes back to memory the music is included with it.
