Phenomenon in the Sky

This picture was taken this mid day here in Guayaquil, Ecuador. It is called "Halo Solar" in Spanish.

It is caused by the refraction of solar rays through ice crystals in the atmosphere. First time I see this phenomenon. Might also be a sign from God, asking us for a change.

Thanks for the picture, Hardi. Yes, at midday the sun was directly over the equator.

Sorry, I made Mistake. I said Spain, but You took that photo from Guayaquil, Ecuador not Spain.

Thank you for share this topic with us, before now, i saw this phenomina but i had no definition or idea about it, i thought alot what's its cause, but now i have understood why :)

Yes I have seen it.
I see it sometime at winter, on clear sky, when there's a lot of ice crystals in air.

Though, I think, that I never seen a nice complete circle like this.. I believe it's because of the angle of sun. In Spain sun shines from more above at winter.. when here it's more close to horizon.

Well, then. I show you one of mine too then.. for exchange. :P :)
I took it some years ago..

I think, that the brightest spots on it's sides, are called sun dogs.

"Halo solar" is a new thing for me and I've never heard about it before.
