Pematang Siantar is the second big town in my Province. It’s about 45 km away from my village Pematang Bandar and about 150 km from the capital of my Province Medan. The native ethnic of Pematang Siantar is 'Bataknese'. Most of the people who live in Pematang Siantar used Batak language in their life even in the market.

There is a famous traditional market in Pematang Siantar that is Horas Market. The name of the market is taken from the greeting of Bataknese ‘Horas’. In Bataknese when somebody meets the other they will say Horas to each other. Horas Market is located in the center of the town. Horas Market has four main building. The style of the Horas building is very Batak, each building of Horas Market has a gateway with Batak traditional house style.

The other uniqueness of Pematang Siantar is the Pematang Siantar’s tricycle motor.

Pematang Siantar's tricycle motor is an old motorcycle that is BSA (Birmingham Small Arms). According to what I’ve known, in Indonesia this BSA (Birmingham Small Arms) that used as tricycle only find in Pematang Siantar and we can find it in large of mount. This BSA tricycle became the mascot of the Pematang Siantar.

Pematang Siantar is not a really big town but it's still could be a comfortable place to live in. Pematang Siantar has a fresh air and the temperature is not really hot. From Pematang Siantar it's only take 30 minuets to go to the beautiful lake 'Toba Lake'.
