Dear Captain,

Long time no contact, how are you? Trust me, I still remember you and I'll try not to forget you even as my disease worsens. Hehehe.

The reason I didn't write to you in the past year, is... Er...A question got me. Really! It's my first time to ponder on a question so deep and so seriously. But I have to admit, I can't think of a good answer till now.

Dongdong, my neighbor, who's a studious kid accessed the gifted class as he went to middle school last September with a younger age than the average. He did a nice job, did he? His father was so proud of him, so was I.

However, after two months as he entered that class, he came to me and complained, "Sister Nikita, do you ever feel desperate?"

"Hmmm, I guess yes. But why?" I was honest. I did feel desperate when I was diagnosed incurable in hypomnesis. As I looked into his pure and watery eyes, I felt his low moods which came out of the bottom of his heart. It made me worried.

"If a talented rabbit also works hard on running practice, then what's the meaning of all the efforts for a tortoise?" He asked, staring at me.

Yes, this is the question that I've been considering for such a long time and still haven't got a decent answer. Dongdong told me however he worked hard, he could hardly exceed his deskmate, a gifted boy, who didn't need to work that hard as Dongdong did, yet he still knew the importance of struggle.

I comforted him that everyone was unique and the world needed diversity. Yet the more I think about it, the more evasive I consider my answer is.

Would you please lend your minds to me? I hope to hear your answer to this question, an answer that is not evasive but persuasive.

Regards

Nikita

  • Sis sewar, you've given me a nice answer!

As for me, I've considered about this question for a time. At first I found there were no satisfied answer for it, every aspect made me desperate. But now, things get better. I think there is a rabbit and a tortoise on us at the same time. You are good at one thing, or two things or more, but you never good at everything. In terms of the things you are good at, you can be a rabbit; for those you are not good at, you might be a tortoise. There is a balance.

    Thanks!

  •       "If a talented rabbit also works hard on running practice, then what's the meaning of all the efforts for a tortoise?"  It is really a very good question!!!!! Sweety, do you know what’s the meaning of all the efforts for a tortoise even though she is not talented!!!!!!!  Just because she doesn’t want to end up with a boring miserable life. God bless you my little princess.

  • Sis Bala, we can not judge anyone easily cause we can't see a whole picture objectively all the time. Prejudice is everywhere and your interest and outlook do affect your opinions.

You are right, comparing a rabbit with another one seems more fair. But I don't think you got me well. I compare faster learners with gifts to rabbits, and normal or even slow learners to turtles. In terms of learners, they are on a level, they are of the same essence. Take sis pls and Mickey as an example. We are both non-natives on English, as you can see, her English is better than mine. I didn't compare mine to Teacher Tara's or Tim New's, yes?

So what do you think of the above question in the blog again?

    ;-) Giggling

  • Dear Galuh, you have a positive outlook to life. That's very good.

I think life is a competition, but not compete with others other than yourself. We are getting better day by day, so that the world get better. It's ture that"Do something (anything). If you don't do anything, you won't get anywhere."

    Thanks for your notable comment!

    ;-)

  • Hello, bro Syed! How are you?

Hmmm, you want to meet Nikita? Giggling, perhaps I can ask it when I meet her. Hahaha.

  • I also believe it that hard work is always paid off, if not now, later life will pay you as a surprise.

There may be a great deal of luck for rabbits. But sis pls, if they also know the importance of working hard and put it in practice, then what can a turtle do?

  • I really wonder why this running competition is between rabbit and tortoise ? and not between a rabbit and the other rabbit ?

Mick....Do u think its the right way of evaluating one's talent ?

  • I think life is not a competition. If it is, we all will feel worn out and lose the essence of life at the end.

He is lucky to get accepted into a gifted class or accelerated class. He is among the bright students! He can learn from them and share something at the same time. His fellows could become the grindstone to help him hone his skills and competencies. No need to always feel down just because he is hardly able to pass his deskmate or even classmate's proficiency, as long as he is not left behind and keeps learning in a sincere way, he could make some achievements.

It's like when I see many members here show their excellent English. They already in the stage of expressing their opinion in an eloquent way, while I am still struggling with the components of this language and often need much time to comprehend their writing with my limited vocabulary. Have I ever been desperate? Of course I have. But, should I stop all the efforts? Nah.

I think the key, in addition to hard work and tenacity, is being grateful. If we always hold our head up, we won't never be satisfied. We just need to do the best we can, find the smart way to reach the goals and be proud of ourselves no matter what the result is. Love the work and ourselves :D.

By the way, I love this saying "Do something (anything). If you don't do anything, you won't get anywhere."

  • I really wish to meet this nikita for whom you've written tons of blogs ;D
