Nikita's 9 letters to Captain X...(7)

Dear Captain,

I went to visit Grandpa Lee again as I promised last time. He was happy to see me and talked a lot with me. But among all what he had told, he mentioned his grandson now and then. I can see his deep love to his grandchild.

He told me his grandson's name is Joseph Lee. When Joseph was born, Grandpa Lee flew to Sweden to visit him as well as his parents. Joseph came to China when he was three and stayed in China for half a year. Three years later, he visited China again with his parents for the funeral of his grandma. However, much to my surprise, Joseph can't speak Chinese. Grandpa Lee said that was because his son didn't want to teach him it.

What a pity!

Every language is beautiful and useful. It's like a key, and leads people to an invaluable cultural treasure. I'd love to learn as many languages as I can. I don't think Joseph's father's choice is wise. Doesn't he trust his son's ability to pick up Chinese or he thinks Chinese isn't worthy to learn? I really don't understand him. If I were him, I would be proud of every skill that my kids obtain.

If I should marry a foreigner too, I would hope for my kids learn both languages. That's an advantage and an opportunity. Why not cherish it? What would you say, Captain?

                                                                                                                Yours sincerely

                                                                                                                     Nikita

  • yes, they are! giggling

hahaha. yeah, your Chinese name is cute!

  • Come on Mickey! It sounds difficult, tooooooooooooo difficult to learn :-( But seems Chinese words are rhythmic. I love its feature! Look! Here's my Chinese name: Fi Hi Mi :-)

  • Lol, it's said my mother tongue is the most difficult language to learn. But you know, quite a few foreign people who I know speak very good Chinese!

There are not many alphabet letters.

Most Chinese syllable are divided into two parts: onset [ initial consonant ] and rime [simple or compound vowel]. Like Mi Qi [my Chinese name] m and q are initial consonants, and the i is rime.

    Want to know more? hhehehe

  • Of course Chinese language is worthy to learn. It's his son's big fault to do that with Joseph!

BTW, I'd like to learn your mother language but it has so many alphabet letters and very tricky writing style as well :-( How can I learn it? Would you give me a magic tip please? ;-)

  • every language represent the key of its people identity. When the key is lost, they would be freaks.

That's true. Thanks for your support, dear sis sewar! You are open-minded.

  • Yes, I agree with you, Expector. It's important for learning other languages, yet one's mother tongue is significant surely.

I admire people those speak more than one language.

  •             "It's like a key, and leads people to an invaluable cultural treasure. I'd love to learn as many languages as I can" What a wise saying my sweety. And allow me to add something which is; every language represent the key of its people identity. When the key is lost, they would be freaks. God bless you my little princess.

  • It seems every language works so well for those who speak it.

Chinese language is important now - it's a shame her grandson can't speak Chinese. People here in China have realized that they wasted too much time in the past and they want to catch up with advanced countries. First, they need to learn English and some other languages because they want to learn from those who live in an advanced country, but that doesn't mean they think Chinese is not important.

  • Oooooh~ Thanks for telling me the reason!

Yet I have known many of my clients' kids speak Chinese and their mother tongues fluently. We can never underestimate children's language ability.

The most poems I can remember up till now were recited when I was at elementary school. I think kids have an advantage to pick up language stuff.

  • Those children should be living and enjoying both worlds... I do think so!

Lol, I am not sure if she has such plan~ But whether she marries a foreigner or not, she will not waste any chance to let her kids obtain more skills and knowledge; whether he is foreigner or not, he'd better have a nice beard to appreciate~ Giggling~
