  • Hardi, thanks a lot. Yes, it is spool, indeed.

  • I don't very well understand what you mean.

Are you still talking about sewing. Or maybe you're talking of weaving a fabric. Fabric is usually weaved on device called loom. And to weave on loom. there is a stick like object that has yarn inside that stick like object winded around a spool or bobbin. That stick like object is called shuttle.. the waver stick the shuttle through of between many threads of yarns. back and forward. wrapping it together. Well difficult to explain for me.. But if you have seen it then maybe you understand what I'm talking.

But if you did not mean the shuttle used for weaving then. I don't know what you mean by stick like object that has yarn wrapped inside... maybe spool?

Well it's interesting for me too. Because I also need to check some word from dictionary. I can't remember all. And English isn't my native language so I did not know the English word for spool. I had to look it up.. although I had heard this word before.. in different context.. spools are used in so many things not only for thread, or yarn. It did not come to my mind in this context.

  • Thanks, Hardi for your new words and description. Really it seems helpful to learn unknown words in a good way. Anyway what it is called where ( in a stick like object) yarns are wrapped is it thread?

  • Okay I give you little more vocabularies, that I happen to know.

Since it's your first time, a seam ripper also could be a big help. If you sew some part wrong, it's much easier to rip the faulty seam with that tool.

The sewing machine also have many kind of different foots available, but u can do with a universal foot almost all.

And if you have bad eye sight. Then a needle threader is also good thing to have. Some sewing machines have automatic threader.

If you often need to switch between different colors, or size of treads. Then it's good to have some more bobbins, to wind different colored thread to each bobbin.. So u can easily switch.

There are also different needles too. For jeans and for jersey example. For jersy or knitted fabric ballpoint needle is used.. Sometime it's called also jersey needle. That needle has been good help for me. Since it won't leave marks(holes) behind, when rip the thread up again. Universal neddle cuts straight through of fabric threads, cutting them.. riping holes to fabric. But ballpoint needle push threads aside so it's less tamage to fabric. I use ballpoint needle for almost everything, except jeans. Jens have thick heavy weight fabric so the bigger stronger needle is needed.

Well if I remember some more things about sewing. I will come back here, and tell you. When I was kid my mom used to sew some clothes to us. It was because u could not get all from store that time.. And then, when I got older. I sometime had to fix the sewing machine to her. It was interesting to me to find it out how it's working. I'm only one in our family who can do that. :P I have 2 older brother, but a sewing machine is too difficult for them. Also my dad is not too good with to understand it. I once got even a really old and rusty sewing machine working. I poured a lot of oil to it's parts and hammered the stuck parts until they started moving, and surprisingly I got it working.. even after all that hammering with big hammer, it did work fine.. Well I guess I did not hammer so hard, or did not hit wrong places. :P

  • Nice blog dear. :)

This is called a rotary cutter, mostly used by quilters to cut fabric. :)

Do you know beginners use hand machine while professionals can use any kind of machine to sew a dress. What do you prefer, a hand machine or regular electric sewing machine? I can use electric sewing machine easily and I have sewed some of my dresses using pleat and lace work with long running stitch.

    :)

  • okay, by your own hand..thanks, everyone to come by.....
