I think the low-level learners learn a lot from the more advanced level and native English chatters. Many just lurk rather than join in. This is just how learning begins in a classroom (and in real life), too. Eventually, they get up enough nerve to join in. Also, would higher-level chatters ask lower-level chatters to leave? It might start a "class" war! This makes for an interesting debate.
I used to be a member of 1997 Chat Room, a few centuries ago. I used to have a lot of chat friends there. But when I came back to EC and tried to chat in 1997 Chat Room, the circumstances are totally different, and sometimes just unbearable. Trolls dominating the room, and using other members nicknames to smear bad names to the said members. Now I no longer come into 1997 Chat Room. It's sad that once it was a nice chat room which Mods help members.
Yes, isn't nice if various smaller rooms can be created by members in EC Main Chat Room? Now, it's only available in the 'blue tool bar', and not 'black tool bar'. Creating different rooms may resolve the issue of fighting among members when several sensitive issues being discussed. Or maybe NOT.
I used to chat in 1997 chat room few times and I could not know who is who there because they can change their names easily. They even faked my nickname, which made me unable to log in with my name. In another word, there most of them are trolls :D
