STARTING CONVERSATION
Hi everybody,
I am not a teacher, I am just a dedicated learner.
This blog aims to share some notes in order to give encouragement about pronunciation. I'm making a self-study without any tutorial, the only things in my progress are internet and books.
While making this process, I realized that issue requires a highly deep research.
In brief outline;
I learned that there had been 15 vowel sounds and five of them are called "front vowel sounds".
/ i / , / I / , / ei / , / e /, / ae /
and following them central and back vowel sounds also diphthong and R-colored sounds.
Position of Lip,tongue,mouth is highly important.
For example;
Lips: Spread, Mouth:from close to opening more, Tongue: forward and from high to lower, like that
See some literature:
Long, Short, Long, Short, Short
tense, relax, tense, relax, tense
(i) (ı) (ei ) (e) (ae)
To be aware of relations between them and understand the differences,
you can look at this link
- you should learn phonemic symbol
- don't need to be expert but should be familiar with the phonemes.
The role of language in my life is more than a communication, I love dealing with english.
Please note what Josef Essberger's (who is founder of EC) said ;
"If you use word stress in your speech, you will instantly and automatically improve your pronunciation and your comprehension."
"Your first step is to HEAR and recognise it."
Two important rules about word stress:
- One word, one stress
- The stress is always on a vowel

The most important sound is SCHWA that every learner should know, I came across a definition of schwa which has been made clearly that it can be remembered easily what schwa is.
"The word -Schwa - comes from the hebrew word schwa, which means; a mark indicating lack of a vowel sound" here is the video has a good teaching technic.

Hi there ?
If you are not sure about learning phonemes ? Here is an article;
Is it difficult to learn phonemic symbols?
Absolutely not. 19 of the 44 symbols have the same sound and shape as letters of the alphabet. This means that some words, such as 'pet', look the same whether written with phonemic symbols or letters of the alphabet. That leaves just 25 to learn. Compare that with the hundreds of different pieces of information in a grammar book or the thousands of words in even a small dictionary. It is a very small learning load. Moreover, it is visual and shapes are easy to remember. Anyone who can drive is able to recognise more than 25 symbols giving information about road conditions. Even if we go beyond separate, individual sounds and include linking, elision and assimilation, there is still a limited and clearly defined set of things to learn.
