Really Absolutely Great Splendor
Where shall I start to flash back ? I was very Impressed. Let's begin by reviewing of their Power. Once upon a time that people were at the height of their Power !
But -it would end- one day as the other examples after a long Sovereign
(862 - 1918)
The historians disscussed four periods in Russian History.
1. The Establishment of statehood. The Rurikid Princes (comes from Slavic world) (862 - 1462)
2. The First Russian Dynasty. The Rurikid Princes. (1462 - 1598 )
3. The Time of Troubles (Interregnum) (1598 - 1613 )
4. The Second Russian Dynasty. The Romanovs ( 1613 - 1918 )
I would like to mention personalities lived in that era who marked in my mind.
1.Tsar Terrible Ivan IV (1530 - 1584) remembered terror and killed his son
2. Emperor Peter I (the Great) (1672 - 1725) Foundation of St Petersburg, Enlightenment movement
3. Empress Catherine II (1729 - 1796) Declared herself empress, Creation of the Hermitage art collection
4. Emperor Nicholas II (1868 - 1918) (Nicholas the Bloody) Economic crises and Collaps Period.
They were Kings and Queens and lived, made diplomatic meetings, accepted ambassadors, took decisions about battles, loved, cried, laughed, felt happy or unhappy, had great parties with their society, ruled people in / from the palaces.
Think and Imagine, they entered into palace by using this gate ! which opened for grandeur.
W i n t e r P a l a c e ,
the main residence of the Russian Tsars. They lived in and ruled the country from here.
The royal guests were welcomed with great pomp and ceremony here......
Illuminated by huge chandeliers, look at the details of the ceiling...
And others.....
We were in Hermitage Complex
- Winter palace & Hermitage were announced to be state museum in 1917,
- which is the largest art&culture museum - palace in the world
- Winter Palace built in 1754 by Empress Elizabeth,
- Hermitage was found in 1764 by Empress Catherine II.
The palace bore witness to the secret lifes, Revolutaions, World War etc... in the Russian history, ...
Luxurious life they had lived, while many ordinary people were starving, brought Revolutions.
Finally came to end and the last emperor Nicholas II and his all family were executed.
The conclusion; Every monarch ends.
Key words; St Petersburg, Petrograd, Leningrad, Romanov, Tsar Peter the Great, Catherine II, Nicholas & Bloody Sunday, Bolshevik, Lenin, white Army, White Nights.
By for now, Thank you for being with me, I hope you enjoy once more.
If you wish :) see you at the next part,
with my best

Hi Dearest Galina,
I am so glad that you are still here :) How nice :)
It was a great honour to have your appreciation as a Russian. Yes I was so impressed and decided to read your history.
I totally agree with you about St Petersburg, I am captivated, fascinated, beyond my guess.
We stayed at Nevsky street, in Radisson Hotel for four days, it was too short for this city.
You know Galina, I am happy to find a common interest :) Do you see Gabriel ?
I hope to see more,
Many kisses,
Selma,
WOW! WOW! WOW!
Selma! What a pleasant surprise to see you again here on EC. I haven't heard from you for ages! And the second surprise is your visit of St. Petersburg and two great blogs about your visit with amazing photos!!!
So, when exactly were you in St. Petersburg? For how long? It's great you loved it! For me it's the best Russian city, too. I completely agree with you about its unique atmosphere. When I visited it for the first time (I was 15 then), I immediately felt its magic influence and fell in love with this fascinating city. I visited it several times after that, last time - this summer to visit my daughter who moved there from Saratov last year. Now she enjoys her living there.
Selma, I'm astonished with your knowledge! You know our Russian history so well! And the photos are simply fabulous! Thanks for such great blogs!
