My Formula One Diary - Day Three

Again, this is the continuation of My Formula One Diary 2013.

Day One : 21.03.2013 (Read here)

Day Two : 22.03.2013 (Read here)

Day Three : 23.03.2013

I was expecting things to change in Day Three. Normally drivers would push their cars to the limit to get the best grid's positions in the Qualifying Rounds.

In addition, Saturday was also the start of Celebrity Spotting. Today was no exception. I saw Michelle Yeoh (James Bond's heroine and a Malaysian) with her partner - the famous Jean Todt.

The morning started with a Support Race event. However, there were not many people on the track. After the Support Race, the Practice Session 3 (P3) started. Nothing untoward happened. What a bore. LOL.

Thank God I brought along a story book. I managed to catch up on my neglected Jo Nesbo's Nemesis, though it was still a long way to go. I managed to learn a new word from that novel which totally floored me : somnambulant - which means walking as if or while sleeping.

I tried to find a bald man to take his picture especially for Mickey, but surprisingly, unsuccessful for the whole morning. Hopefully, my luck will turn to the better in the afternoon.

Qualifying Session started with a bang for Sutil. Qualifying One (Q1) went smoothly, well not to some of the cars and drivers, but in term of race, it was smooth. However, for Qualifying 2 (Q2) it was not. Roughly three minutes before Q2 ended, it was raining, again. The teams decided to sit it out and just change their tyres to Intermediate.

The whole Qualifying Three Session (Q3) was done in the drizzle. For me it was only a drizzle, but Chris - one of the Stewards Secretaries said as far as their concern it was raining. It went smoothly, I thought.

Hmmm. I was wrong. A few minutes after Q3 ended, the Chief Stewards came over to the room and had a conversation with both Stewards Secretaries and discussed on F1 Rules. I do not feel so optimistic anymore. After quite lengthy discussion, a summon was issued to Kimi Raikonnen and Nico Rosberg to see the Stewards. One of the perks of being the Assistant to Stewards Secretaries was to be able to see a few naughty drivers up close.

After a lengthy closed door discussion with both drivers and their team representatives, a decision was made. I hope I would not see or type the word "impede" on the Race Day tomorrow. Poor Kimi Raikonnen was penalised three grids down.

When I was writing this, the Official Time and Grid Positions are yet to be issued. The Technical Report is yet to be issued to all Teams. And it is already 8:00 p.m. I think my day is going to be long one today.

Hope on the Race Day tomorrow, everything will be smooth. And for Mickey, this last photo is especially dedicated to you.
