My English Soapbox! :D

English is an interesting language. For native speakers, I don't believe that we realize how challenging this language is...until we ourselves take another language. I appreciate languages. I love languages. I am fluent in English (native) and Spanish. I'm learning Arabic, which is VERY different! : DPersonally, I've worked in the hospital for many years, homeschooled my own children, and still teach English as a Second Language (ESL). It's very interesting for me to see how impatient some English speakers become when another person, who is not perfect at English, tries to speak English. We must remember that in order to speak another language, it requires intelligence. That means, that people who speak more than one language are smart! ; ) So, when we hear someone trying to speak English, even if it's not perfect English, we need to be patient, listen closely, be polite, and most of all, appreciate the fact that person is trying very hard to communicate with English speakers. My hat is off to those who really are sincere about learning English and improving their current English skills! To the students of English, please remember this: There are NO dumb questions! Keep asking until you get your questions answered! This is how you learn. Study hard and practice as your English teachers tell you, and you WILL get better. You don't have to talk like an American or Englishman. You just need to get your ideas across to the listener or reader successfully! That's called communication! : D
