Mother

She was once again waiting for the customer sitting in the lobby restaurant of a five star hotel sipping her coffee as usual.  Hotel management knew about her and allowed her to sit there and if any interested guest of the hotel wanted to have a company of a girl, a waiter provided her the room number.  She was paid by the hotel later weekly.

She was taking the last sip of her coffee when the waiter came and gave her a chit.  She just had a glance at the room number and stood immediately.

The door was immediately opened as she knocked.  He was a handsome man of between 30 - 40 years.   He seemed not to be very talkative person.  Just introduced himself, and lied on the bed waiting for her to come.  She smiled very professionally, then paused as remembered something.

“Excuse me,” She said to the man, the smile was still was on her lips.

She took out her cell phone and went to the window of the room punching some number rapidly.

“Hello  Martha! Its me, did you feed the baby?  I put the feeder on the table, okay, what is she doing now, sleeping, nice.  I will be back within few hours.”

She switched off the cell phone and went back to the bed where the man was waiting for her quietly.  “Sorry, it was my daughter, I wanted to make sure she is well-fed and comfortable.”  She said to the main with a smile, getting herself undressed.

Two weeks later, she was sitting in her single room house, her daughter was giggling and playing on the bed.  She heard the knock at the door.  She went to the door and unlatched it.  He, the same man was standing there, she recognized him at once, and said, “I’m sorry I don’t entertain the customers at home, you better come to the hotel if you want to……………..”  “No, no, my intention to visit you is not that!”  He interrupted her, “I have to talk to you about something else, shall I come in?”

She moved aside to let him in.  “Yes, what do you want?” She was looking quite puzzled.

“Okay, I come to the point directly, will you marry me?”  He looked firm, but still hesitant, while he said this.

She didn’t respond, just staring at him covering her opened moth with one hand.  “Are you out of your mind?   You do not know what are you talking, or you must be joking.”

“No, I am serious, and I am well aware what I am talking, and what I am asking.  I have thought a lot since I passed that night with you two weeks back and I decided to see, and offer you to be my life partner.  The hotel management very hardly allow me to have your address when I expressed why I wanted to see you.”

“But why, you know who I am…. a pro. I am a call…………….” “No, don’t say that, please!”

“It’s damn truth, I don’t understand why you want to marry me.”  She was still looking shocked and puzzled.

“Why mister…………..?”    “Because you are a “mother”!” He interjected.

“So what if I am a mother? What relation it has to asking me to marry you?”

“Yes it has a relation, because my mother was a pro and call girl too, and she was doing this because of me, she was single parent, my father left her in the middle when I was in her womb.  Time passed and when I was a boy I wanted to stop her, but there was no source of income and I was too young.  And when I became strong enough to stop her she died.  You are a mother, too, I want to stop you from this …………… I will take care of your baby, I guarantee you.  Please let me safe at least a mother from ruining her life for her baby.”

He was sitting bowing his head to hide his tears from her, but she was not caring to hide hers which were rolling down her cheeks where the pleasure was dawning.  She went to him, took his face in her hands, raised his head, and started kissing all over his face.  “Okay I will marry you, let’s get out this life.”

He stood up, picked up the baby in his arms and they went out to enter into the new life.

  • Hey Mish, this story reminds me a film "Pretty woman" with Richard Gere and Julia Roberts, it's a fairy tale with a happy ending. There's a saying "to err is human but to persevere is diabolical", so why do not give a second opportunity to people who sometimes is obliged to make a choice, although there's always someone who judge and condamn "a priori".

  • Thanks Keen you hit the nail in the head.

  • Thank Rasty to give me a sigh of relief after a very long hot argument.

    Thanks you once again.

  • A silver lining in a tragedy of real life , it's true that some people are not lucky enough to have a decent life it's amazing to say that there is a hope for everyone and there are still good people out there weather they have shared the same tragedy or not .
waiting for you next blog ( try to challenge us with some hard words so we learn and enjoy )  thanks Mishaikh

  • Walker first you learn how to speak, you even do not know the manners. Sorry, I asked you in my previous comment to stop your NONSENSE COMMENTS.

I think your father will also include those OLD BRATS whose company you enjoy.

Here again you didn't understand comments of JR, because you do not know the background and the knowledge what is going on in the word. JR also indicated a fact, (agreeable or not), but if you have the knowledge you do have understood what JR is pointing out.

Do not argue, and stop your NONSENSE COMMENTS. (COMMENTS WITHOUT HAVING BASED KNOWLEDGE TO A SUBJECT).

Why don't you write your own blog to elaborate your thoughts instead of using others platform.

  • There are indeed realities in life that are a tragedy but once in a while someone comes along and transforms it so that it is made better.  Thanks for reminding us of the task that we all need to do in life. "What man is a man who does not make the world better"

  • Because you will not be able to understand the reality if you keep yourself away.  This is the part of society.  The writers I referred are considered the top notches of literature world of Subcontinent.  Being a observer it does not mean that you are involved in it.  Ok do not read, then you do not have the right to criticize any one in the way you do, unless you make abreast yourself with the facts and realities.

Everything you accept or not, has its own background.

For your training, let me say (if you feel irritating PARDON ME).

Yes keeping oneself abreast with the realities, facts how ugly they are are the step towards maturity.  Keeping eyes closed is like ostrich fear.  And know does not mean involving.

I found it obligatory, because of your criticizing which was wrong.  Look at Usra's comment.  She simply disliked it leaving me no counter comment.  But the way you showed your criticism raised the obligation for me to explain.  I am an amateur in the field of literature, I try to write what I read in our own and other literature.  Our literature is very rich in this aspect.

I am now stopping this argument and expect the same from you.

  • A girl goes to sex industry...............

Give a suggestion (based on the story) any other place she would go.
Okay I give you an Idea, suppose she go to a domestic industry, a garment factory, get job,
seeing her helpless the supervisor kidnapped her, abused her then what.

Man I work in a engineering Industry, we do have a section where workers are girls/women. I have better experience what is going on with them under the highhandedness of men in power.
Like I said come out of the house, and see how ugly your society, is.

Try to find a book HEERA MANDI SAY PARLIAMENT TAK. Read to find the filth around us.

  • Read your Urdu literature I referred, then talk. Come out of house and see what is going on around you. I can write the name of the prominent persons here in this forum, but this is not my topic. My topic how to mend the society. You give any other suggestion if you have in mind besides criticizing. Go to your luxury hotels and restaurants. This is not the first time I have written on this topic. Read my 'Cafe' & "Jackpot". The bottom line was the same.
There are brothel houses in every city around do you want me to give the name............
No my boy just get matured and face the reality..........the ugly reality. Your mere words, and showing your disgust is even not a white wash to hide if.

Yes you have to right to criticize if there is any indication of promoting. Any doctor does not promote the diseases by dealing with them. So as a writer do. It is up to the readers what they understand, but this is however depends how mature they are.

  • Yes it is Gunah-e-Kabeera, but is it not prevailing in our country as well as in others.  So there should be a need to curtail it.............but how....................you give any suggestion besides the one I have mentioned in fiction.

Your concern is appreciating.  Mere words can't heal the wounds, they need treatment.

The thought inspired me to write this was to give the message to draw the attention towards the mending of society.  What would you do when you go to a doctor, you first show your wound or disease

. If you have read the literature in your own language you will find Umarao Jan, You will find kaneaze, You will find Pakeeza, Naheed (of Razia Butt), there are 100s of others. What do you think what had inspired these prominent writers and producers to expose the topic of PROSTITUTION.

How would advise society what is wrong and needed to be cured unless you explain it in stories or articles.
