It is mid autumn now.Every year as soon as my birthday came, I know mid autumn is coming. We have a tradition in autumn. As a country with the similar culture with China, we use both Sun calendar and Moon calendar. The Sun calendar is used for work by younger people. And the Lunar calendar is used for many special occasions. For example: marriage, New Year holiday or choosing a good day to move in a new house... Mid autumn is an example too.(So that in every wall calendar, both Sun and Moon 's days are showed).Back to our tradition, when autumn is coming, we will see moon cakes everywhere. This is the signal of autumn. But there is a truth: moon cakes are always expensive at the beginning season. It is not true that everyone can buy a box of cakes.People usually buys cakes for the elder (grandparents), family and relatives. Mostly they buy moon cakes as a gift for business partners.Luckily, my husband 's company and mine buy a moon cake box for every employer. The cake 's price will highly go down in 1 week before middle autumn day. We can even buy 1 get 1 more. But I don't think everybody has chance to own it.I remember about 7 years ago, while walking, I saw a ciclo driver. He sat on his ciclo and looked with concentration on the moon cake shop in front of him. It was evening and he might sleep in his ciclo at night. I felt a little hurt. I wondered "Should I buy him a cake". He might see i'm watching him (just in some short seconds). At last I decided to go.That is one of my memories of autumn...In autumn holiday, young people might go to small, poor towns to celebrate holiday for the kids. That is a very nice action! My customers some times give us moon cake too. So that I usually have moon cakes to send to our grandparents. This year finally I can send them a box. My mother went to their place and brought it. I'm very happy. In middle autumn holiday, many lanterns are sold to the kids. In the past, this day is more funny. People in a hamlet gathered (almost was kids). They ate moon cake, pomelo, green rice flakes, sugar cane... They sang together the autumn holiday songs. It was very happy.Nowadays, neighbors are not as friendly as in the past. In the big city we just take some short conversation.Mid autumn holiday will be celebrate by parent's companies for the children. We also have a lantern street. Since 3 weeks before mid autumn, it has been very crowded every night. I had chance to go there once in my life many years ago. My ex boyfriend picked me there. It was very sparkling with many kinds of lanterns. I like it a lot.Now my husband and I don't do anything special on that day. We are now older and afraid of crowd. We haven't had a kid yet.So just enjoy moon cakes and old autumn memories.Have a beautiful autumn, friends!
Dear Alice, I think about your wonder and found the clearly definition in wiki: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mid-Autumn_Festival
I'm interested in reading those information. They describe perfectly our tradition. That is a very nice tradition. I just wonder how we can keep our old custom survives. Here in a big city many things changed. Now I remember my old memories when I was a kids (7 or 8). We were very so happy that time with our mid autumn day!
