Snow was falling silently and steady. The playful snowflakes hit the ground without melting, coloring the landscape in a white rug. Snow, the diamond dust from clouds.
There was a joyful mood among the children on the street, even the adults forgot for a while their concerns and became childish with the children.
People who regularly walked by the house on their way to somewhere, always noticed her, the woman by the window.
Her face was expressionless, but her eyes told a different story. Those who managed to get some sort of eye contact with her, felt drawn into a darkness of sorrows so deep, from where there was no escape. They could feel her pain, it felt like their heart froze and they felt like screaming, instead they rushed away from there.
Humans rarely want to be reminded of such kind of sorrow, they flee and seek for happiness among the happy. Sorrows reminds them of their fragility.
She was looking at the street without noticing all the activity, without noticing the snow, there were painful memories associated with it. Her thoughts were far away, there at the exact moment where time stood still forever in her mind.
At any moment she was expecting to hear the joyful, happy voice of her little son running towards her and her husband following right after. Her husband, whose voice she would have been able to recognize among millions, so special it was to her that she had to close her eyes to recall the tones.
She recalled a conversation her friend once had with her, asking whom she would choose to rescue in a life threatening situation. At that time she had answered immediately and without hesitation, “my son” - Today she wasn’t sure what would she have answered.
She just knew, she would have given her life at any cost, to save the to persons in her life, without whom life was empty, not worth living.
There were no voices. There were only an empty echo of painful memories.
She walked away from the window and sat slowly on the chair closing her eyes. No one knew when she went from the conscious world into the unconscious, they just saw a happy, peaceful smile upon her face.
She was there where she wanted to be, she heard their voices long before she saw them, she ran towards them. There they was standing on a green field with beautiful flowers, and sun shining. Her son, her husband, waiting for her.
New young family, with two children moved in the house, there was joy and laughter. Life moved one.
Winter was replaced by Spring.
“Life goes one...
Whether you choose to move on and
take a chance in the unknown.
Or stay behind, locked in the past,
thinking of what could’ve been.”

So sad story but nicely written. I guess you were in a melancholic mood when you wrote it, Evangelina :)
Good to know that, Evangelina! Thank you! And yes, you are right, it is used perfectly! And the whole story is very sad. I hoped all this time, this story to be a fiction. Thank you!
Thank you to the both of you for reading and liking, I appreciate it much.
Yes, it is a touching story, though this is just a story but as you rightly have expressed this can be as reality sometimes shows us.
I do agree with what you have expressed, if we get pain then we also get the strength to handle it, because hope is there and faith is there.
I am not surprised by your statement about sadness, but I believe it must not be something that overshadow happiness, because happinesses is the ground pillar for humans survival - We was not made to stay in a sorrowful state.
Thank you so much for taking time reading, I really appreciate it.
