Aloha EC people!

It’s been a while since I don’t write any blog but some people here are suggesting so very cool challenges that... how could I skip it?! I love Onee’s challenge (Thanks Onee!) so this is my dialogue with a stranger.

Thanks in advance to all of you who are suggesting challenges and taking part; but also big thanks to all of these members  who are just reading and commenting. You’re helping to keep this site alive! ^_^

OKay, this is my story...

---

My “Meeting a Stranger” dialogue is a true story that happened to me some months ago. But first and foremost I’d like to make clear that even if this dialogue is about religion, I don’t really want to start any “religion arguing” here and neither is my intention to offend anyone: We all have our own beliefs and opinions and I respect every of them.

I also wanna explain that I live near to a Jehovah's Witnesses church, so I come across Jehovah's Witnesses very often.  From time to time they stop people in the street and hand them some brochures. When it happens to me I usually just take them and smile, out of politeness and that’s all (Sometimes I even read them because they always talk about the Doomsday coming soon and I find it very funny since they have been talkin’ about that near Apocalypse for over a hundred years. It seems the word "soon" is very subjective.) Anyway, they are nice people and they usually just give you these brochures. Nothing bad about it. I never talk to them and they don’t talk to me... Except for this day:

-Mary *Waiting for the bus*

Two middle-aged women are approaching. At first it seems they are just gonna keep walking by but, once they get to the bus stop, they stop in front of Mary and give her a brochure. Mary then realizes they are Jehovah's Witnesses so she does what she uses to do in these situations: To smile and hope for them to leave... But no!! One of them starts talkin'! :S (the other one is gonna keep silent all the time)

-Jehovah's Witness Woman: Hi, I don’t know whether you know our church and activities or if you’d like...

The woman keeps talkin’ but Mary doesn’t really pay much attention 'cause she was hoping the woman to leave... but she doesn’t! She keeps talkin’ and Mary is waiting for the bus... it’s a trap!! D:  Mary can’t run away because the bus has to come in 2 minutes!!! The only thing she can do is to save that woman’s time being honest...

-Mary: Erm... yeah, look... I’m sorry, but I'm actually atheist and you’re not going to convince me about anything so...

-Jehovah's Witness Woman: Oh! Hahaha! Noo!

(Mary doesn’t get the laugh)

-Jehovah's Witness Woman: No dear! I’m not here for trying to "convince you"...

-Mary: *raises her eyebrow* Yeah, right...

-Jehovah Witness Woman: Would you mind if I ask you... Have you ever read the Bible?

-Mary: Yes.

The Jehovah's Witness Woman looks a lil bit ‘surprised’. She probably was expecting a negative answer.

-Jehovah's Witness Woman: Oh, and... What do you think about it?

-Mary: *sigh*... Well, it’s a very interesting random compilation of old scriptures. It has some pretty good stories and legends so it’s not hard to understand it had a great impact among a very superstitious society back then. Now people just keep the traditions, I guess.

-Jehovah's Witness Woman: *silence*... (Mary feels that the woman doesn’t really know what to say now, so the Jehovah's Witness Woman keeps improvising) And... How do you think it was everything created?  For instance, when you look at the stars... Who do you think made all these stars? You never wonder who made the stars?

-Mary: *inner facepalm* Well, no... I don’t need to wonder that 'cause Science can explain it. But I wonder who made God... Who made God?

-Jehovah's Witness Woman: Oh! Haha... (fake laugh) But... I can’t answer that!

-Mary: No way! Well, I could tell you... (Mary finally can see the bus coming, yay!) but I gotta go, sorry...

Mary gets ready to take the bus...

-Jehovah's Witness Woman: Ok, well... but... You just think about the stars... Who made the stars.

-Mary: Okay and you think about God... Who made God.

Moral of the story: Anything you belive is OK but... Keep it to yourself :P

Thanks for reading!
I'm sorry if it was too long, but don't blame me! Blame the Jehovah's Witness talkative woman! :P

  • A cop??! hahahhahaha How crazy!! I'll think twice before messing with Jeovah's Witness next time! And the naked thing is also a very good option! XD

Btw, Rose's Thorn... Plz! Tell me you are our SUPER COOL Viviana D'Orìa!!!! <3 <3 <3

    I miss Viv here :(

  • lol Mary you are very lucky since they just hand you their newspape from time to time. I have a Jeovah's WItness as a neighbour too he lives in the flat in front of mmine. Many time they came and rang to my door, possibly around 7am on Sunday, this as you an understad is enough to put you in a bad mood. Not enough .. I tried to explain them my point of view as graciously as you did but helas tht only made things worse for since they couldn't give me an answer they decided to send me someone knowing more the next Sunday .. the last attempt was with a cop...now l was really laughng hard. Anyway this is how things go here. A friend of mine was more clever he went and opened the door naked. THey NEVER went to visit him again :D

  • Hey AG! Sorry for the late reply, I didn't see your comment before.

Sure, we can talk about religion whenever you want, I like the topic and God is my fav fiction character XD

Okay, joking aside, it's never my intention to be 'sharp' as you said, but you know... My patience has a limit when someone is bothering my 'inner peace' with stuff that I didn't ask for :P

Thanks for your comment and nice words.

  • hahahahahaha.. Sometimes I have a desire to debate with you about religion.. only because it's the only reason that makes you get sharp and mean like that :D

However, I was only kidding.. being direct and sharp against your philosophy in life is totally fine as long as you are far from bigotry and aggressiveness.. I always say that having an opinion (even a wrong opinion) is much much better that imitating society without understanding..

Nice to read you always :)

  • Estanis! hahahaha c'mon! I'm not that bad! :D  But well... it was early in the morning and I was half-asleep... Maybe at the evening it could have been a more 'dramatic' meeting XD

  • Onee! Thanks to you for the challenge! To write dialogues is a really interesting exercise :)

I don't think there's anything offensive in the dialogue as well, but you know the topic about religion is 'extra-sensitive' sometimes, so I wanted to make clear that I don't have anything against any belief.

On the other hand, you say you don't like to "get involved" with discussions about religion and I can understand that. But as long as the 'tone' in the discussion is polite, I can't see any problem for talkin' about it. Actually, I find it one of the most interesting topics to talk about. But anyway... I know there have been many problems in MyEC because of this topic and that's why I understand your point.

The question I asked to that woman about God was actually a kind of "rhetorical question". I really didn't expect any answer, or just a very simple/abstract one (I got the first thing hehe)
I admit I was a lil bit mischievous there ;) As a "former believer" I am, I already know how are the answers that religious ppl have to some questions so... I was more or less expecting what I got :P

I don't really have many other questions to 'wonder' about God, but you know? That's a good piece of advice: To wonder. To question everything! :) Believe me, I always do that and I suggest others to do it as well. So yeah, I'll keep 'wondering' ;)

    Thanks for your interesting comment.

Risty! hahaha... Do I "drop bombs"?? I kind of like that XD

Ok I admit I like controversial stuff, you know me :D

About the "inner facepalm" well... Is just like an ordinary "facepalm" but picturing it in your head... Don't tell me you never felt like "facepalming" while talkin' to someone?! :D

Thanks a lot for dropping by and your nice-funny comment ^_^

Bet, yes I didn't know what to say as well XD
And yes, they are very polite and give you their 'propaganda' for free haha...

    Thanks for reading! :)

Luci, I was wondering how could have been your dialogue if you had been in my shoes haha... I can imagine a Jehovah's Witness woman running away from you XD

Ada! So you also have to 'deal' with that :)
Thanks for dropping and your sweet words ^_^

Hey Peppo! nice to see you around ^_^
Yes you're right, they usually try to visit ppl at their home, but it seems they made an exception with me... Maybe they saw me and thought that I needed to be saved from the flames of hell XD

Yes I also think she could have done a better job... Even me, being an atheist, could have given better religious answers! hahaha... But she also picked the worst "victim" (me), poor her XD

Dan Brown novel?? hahaha that's was funny XD Anyway, I always think that it's more likely I can convert a Jehovah's Witness into atheism than the opposite XD

Thanks a lot for dropping by and your funny comment! :)

    Hey lovely Eva! ^_^

hahaha yeah! You said it: I'm a lost cause! XD

Yes, I agree they are very nice people but they shouldn't insist on pretending to be prophets who come to "save" you.

That thing you mention about the "medical incompatibilities" they have, yes, I think the law should take sides on these decisions only when it affects to kids. But for adult people I think it's okay, because it's how they decided to live their lives and they live according to these principles and rules. Actually, I even find it very logic and consistent with their beliefs not to acept the help of the Science when they get sick since, according to their beliefs, all what happens, good or bad, is "because God wants it like that."

But about kids, I think they should never take part on any religious decision or tradition, no matter how they are. We see this more clear in the case of the Jehovah's Witnesses because it's a "life or death" decision; but I see this as a general religious problem: Baptism, circumcision, female genital mutilation... Kids don't even know what is all that about, they can't decide for themselves, they're totally vulnerable... I'll always keep on defending that kids should never take part on any kind of religious issue; and I really think it should be necessary to establish a legal age to belong to any official religion or doctrine...
And this could be another interesting topic to discuss... ;)

Sorry for all that "speech"! And thanks a lot for your support and for your very interesting comment. :)

  • For a moment I thought this could have a tragic ending but I'm glad no one was injured finally, maybe 'cos your bus arrived on time.
  • Dear lovely Marry,.
I dunno what is Jehovah witness but sometimes I read that they knocked on your door and said "Excuse me, miss. Do you have time to talk about Jesus our lord and our savior?" Hehehe... Am I right?
To be honest I feel pity for that woman. I meant, she could do better. If I were her, I would like bring a set of holly books and errr maybe a shelf of books, because I would love to bring Bible, Vedas, Qur'an, Dan Brown novel and etc to 'satisfy' Marry with the answer of her question, lol. It means you will get trapped forever, muahahahaha -evil laugh- but because I weren't, and I am -ehem- a kind person. So, I just sitting here, sipping a cup of tea and laughing as hell while reading your blog, hahahaha xD
    Thanks for sharing xD
  • Dear Mary, That's a nice experience though!I meet some JW people regularly near my bus stop. Every month they give me their magazine 'watch tower'. When they try to talk, I always say, I am sorry I am in a hurry. They always stand with a beautiful smile (fake) on their face. They are very talented in catching fish sorry people :).

    Well written!

    Thanks for sharing sweetheart!

  • Can't stop laughingggg!!! Omggg poor Mary got trapped! btw here they used to knock at door and wanted to speak with everybody in the block of apartments :D btw I find their "books" kinda kitsch or how it is written :D great blog, dear :p
