Time flied, I was promoted to a higher office and my parents urged me to build up my own family. They found a girl for me who I had never seen before. It is a bit incredible, yes? My boy, you know, at that time most of us had arranged marriage, it was a common way and accepted by all. And I followed their arrangement and was going to marry that girl. 

However, you could hardly cheat your heart, it is always awake. I changed my mind when I heard her hubby died in a traffic accident, left her with their only daughter. I had a strong feeling that I wanted to protect them and I told my family what I was thinking. At first they opposed me harshly, but seeing my determined willing, they had nothing to say. Soon, I came to her house and confessed her “Marry me, please!” But she refused me directly without any explanation which made me disappointed and frustrated. I dared not to tell my family and left my hometown.

3 years later I came back home, only to learn her daughter died of pneumonia and she became alone, being bullied by her sisters-in-law, which provoked me to come back to her. This time I came to her, I didn’t push her. At daylight, I just helped her with farming work and house work, then came back to my home. This kind of days last around half year, when one day she suddenly asked me “I know you are a good man, and you love me for who am I. Marry me, please?” My boy, you know, that day, yes, was one of the happiest day in my life.

I took her to my family and held the wedding. I still remember, your mom was a quiet woman, and on the whole day when we married, all she had told me was “Good people and things always deserve our patient waiting, I am lucky to meet a patient guy like you!”

After two years, you came to visit us, and I felt myself the happiest man in the world without any sense of misfortune was on the way. On a snowy dusk, after having dinner, she felt a sharp pain, I sent her to the nearest hospital, which was still far away from our village as soon as possible. In the hospital, I was held back outside the operating room, waiting anxiously that I moved back and forth, when suddenly a baby’s crying came into my worried ears. I just felt relieved, but the doctor told me she was leaving, so I ran to her while tears ran out rapidly. She was so pale, which made my heart into pieces. Minutes later she left us with a beg “please be strong and take best care of our kid!”

I lost my heart since that day only remembered to bring you up to my best, I dared not even to think of the past, so I didn’t mention any words to you about your mom all these years even though you kept asking me.

Dear son, I am so happy to see you finally marry the right girl for you. Here, I just want to remind you one thing, that is “Be a man and take best care of her and your future kids”

Oh, son, tears are running down along my old face again after absence of many years. But no worries at all, they are happy ones, for you! My boy, now let me go to find the handkerchief which your mom used to wipe off the sweaters with for me…
