Love Ladder...6

Wait me on the other side

He suddenly fell down after farming. She was so worried than even at midnight she went down the mountain to ask her sons for help alone. That was her first time to walk on the stairs which were hand-carved by him. On the way downhill she slipped and fell for several times. At such an old age, she still kept walking on the stairs in the rainy midnight because she was scared. She was afraid…

He never got up after this tumble. After his death, his kids went through his things and suggested their mother going down the remote mountain to live with them so that they can take care of her.

“After father’s death, my mother became cracked. Often we saw her looking to that direction silently and blankly from early morning to the dusk and talking to herself ‘You promised me you'll take care of me, you'll always be with me until the day I died, now you left before me, how am I going to live without you? Will you wait me on the other side? I miss you…’ We tried our best to make her happy, but we were so sure my father had taken away her hope and only left her with the ladder. The day my mother closed her eyes, she kept singing the folk song that my father sung before and smiled peacefully…” Said their third son when his mother passed away, “She was too lonely and during the five years without my father she seldom smiled. She died of lovesickness.”

They two were buried together in the mountain which they lived for more than 50 years. He left at the age of 70 while she 85, 5 years later after he had gone.

The love ladder became well-known overnight.
