Nowadays, the pressure to be perfect is such surreal that we put ourselves into insuperable demand of 'perfection'. This is maybe because we are being bombarded with images of 'perfect bodies' by the mass media from when we were young.
I had to admit I am also facing 'body issues' constantly. When I looked into the mirror, instead of looking for the beauty of me, sometimes what I can see is all my imperfections. The wrinkles, the scars, the double chin, the almond shape eyes. the button shape nose, and etc. Why am I not tall? Why am I not skinny enough to fit any dress that I want? It's hard not to nit pick every flaws. It's hard to accept that I'm perfect with my imperfections even after all these years.
However, I thank God that when I grew up, there was no internet. Television was a luxury rather than necessity. So, at least my view on what a 'perfect body' should be is not so twisted. Nor the pressure to be super thin and perfect being thrust to me from early on in my formative years.
The medias constantly thrust us with the idea of 'perfection' that some of us will try our best to be what we think we should be. We never satisfy with our bodies, our face, and everything about us. Plastic surgery becomes a lucrative business. Millions of dollars being poured into research of beauty products, which make you wonder, if all those money is being used for medical research, how many lives can we save.
Therefore, it is refreshing to see some celebrities using their star power to address this issue. For an example, Angelina Jolie wrote; "Beneath the makeup and behind the smile, I am just a regular person. So many girls look up to me. I want them to know that natural is beautiful. They aren't fully aware of the fact that behind the looks there are a lot designers, make up artists, and phtoshop editing. Celebrities whole sense of beauty is flawed. You should be care free. Love the real you. It doesn't matter what you look like on the outside, it's what on inside that counts".
I hope, by repeating ''I'm perfect in my imperfection' and makes it a mantra, looking into the mirror will not be a torturous daily experience for me.

Mishaikh, kids have unfiltered views, that's why they can appreciate even a simplest thing. However, not everyone have such views. We adults are constantly being bombarded with skewed views depending on what most medias want us to see. That's why, instead being more acceptable and comfortable with ourselves, sometimes we, the adults started to question ourselves, and sometimes even lose confidence. It's the reality of life.
Dear Sewar, you're very lucky to have a mother that taught and instilled a good value to yourself. My mom was too. But sometimes, the peer pressure and surrounding environment make you questions certain things and put some doubt into your mind.
May every women find the inner peace as you. God bless you dear.
Remember always that a kid always their mom attractive and beautiful. This should be enough for us. The level of beauty varies nation to nation and tribes to tribes. What we consider ugliness is considered beauty in African countries and other tribal areas, and their kids equally love their moms may be even more. Put two women of different nation together their respective kids will move towards their mothers and not to the farer one.
Thanks dearest for sharing us your nice reflection at the mirror. Actually, since I was a little knotty girl, I was so delighted every time I see my reflection at the mirror because, my mother taught me how to cherish my body. That's why my body is precious to me. Tell this moment I love every inch of it even though, it chanced a lot. But I created some of peacefulness in my mind towards my body. So every time I look at the mirror, yes I wonder whose that woman stand there, but all what I see is the reflection of the peacefulness as perfect health. My best wishes for you.
Dear Bala, you're right. Beauty is from within. It's no use if we have a beautiful red lips, but only harsh words ever come out from it. Yeah, if we have a pre-set definition of beauty, then everyone will look like Kent and Barbie dolls. Then, everyone will become bored with each other. :D :D :D
Physical fitness? Hmmm ... what is that? Is it sleeping? LOL
Lips are beautiful only when it speaks kind words....not just the red lips...
According to me, I am more concerned on my physical fitness to do my regular activities with ease, thats it.....
There is no defined measurements for Beauty... then everybody should look alike...isnt it ?
Camel, you're right. Nothing can remedy a 'dissatisfied soul'. Thanks for your wise words.
:) Be a Camel, always. LOL
Alice E, it's more of a reminder to myself rather than anything else. Being critical on our own body is really hard not to do. So, I have to keep reminding myself that no body is perfect, even Angelina Jolie. :D :D :D :D
Imperfections are impetus to inspire us to perfection. When unkempt- make clean, when broken-fixed, when rugged-make straight, when empty- filled but when it comes to the body, its only perfection is mirrored by the state of its spirit. Well penned blog noas and a good reminder. :)
Hi Ann, Expector Smith was correct. But sometimes, we can't help from wishing something impossible. LOL. Thanks for reading.
