Discussion Question: As the society develops, a large number of single older women emerge. Usually these women are well educated, have good jobs and taking appearances. Yet they are called "Leftover Lady" in modern China. What do you think of "Leftover Lady"(LOL)? What makes them leftover? Do you accept "Blind Dates"?
Ministry of Education promulgated 171 new Chinese words in August, 2007, among which "Leftover Lady" is included. Leftover Lady is a girl who has passed so-called marriageable age and keeps single according to the secular concept. Normally speaking, she is above 27 or 29.
Before new China was founded in 1949, seldom women could come out of family and work. Yet since new China was founded, emancipation of women has made great headway and women's position is getting higher and they have more rights. Many of them have gained their own remarkable career. However, economy seems always develops faster than people's concept. Women have made great contribution to the society while the society still expect much from them which mean they have to take good care of family besides pursue career.
It can be a reason that the girls keep single as they don't want the family burden to limit their personal development. They learn many new things and follow their hearts to pursue what they want. Also, people say those girls are too picky when choose a partner. But whatever reasons that make them single at an older age, I don't like the word "leftover". The society should be more tolerant and understanding to them. What does "leftover" mean? Don't tell me that's a commendatory term.
As there emerges leftover singles, blind date, which was outdated way for dating in old China, becomes popular again. It's getting more and more popular as commercial thrust intervenes. In my city, it is also welcome. Several of my cousins entered the marriage hall in this way. Here, once you graduate from university, especially for girls, if you are single then, your parents will start to arrange blind dates for you until you get married.

Here boys don't need to do house chores while girls have to. My mom is different, she allows me not to do the chores as the boys. She also encourage me to do what I like. However, when it comes to marriage, she shares the same view as the other mama!
So I guess the girls [LOL] must face heavy pressure. I feel sorry and worried for them. Alas!

Marriage is for population rate only and females used to be sacrificed for this issue in a place by the name of family.

sis pls, it is a pity that Chineses society concepts changes much slower than our exonomy. Just read the word LOL you can know people's attitude to those women.
I think I am going to face that pressure that I don't want to face. Alas! Why don't I grow tall but grow old! How I wish people can be more understanding to them!
