Yiyi was born to carry congenital heart disease. The disease burnt through all their family savings, and her father gradually lost his faith to cure her. But her mother would never give up and worked hard to gain money so that Yiyi could have a new man-made heart.
When Yiyi was 12, she got a little brother. Since then her parents almost became workaholic. She had to drop out of her loving school and take care of her younger brother. Life hardship and her disease made Yiyi a strong and caring girl. She did all the housework to ease her mother's burden. She loved her father yet she was afraid of him because he was serious and seldom smiled.
One day her younger brother fell ill, but her parents worked overtime and were not at home. She was worried and waited for her parents since they lived in a humble house of a small town and far away from the crowded. About 1 hour later, her father came back. She then went to her father's room and wanted to ask her father to take her brother to a doctor.
"Father, can you stop your work for a while, Tutu is [Tutu is her brother's name]...?" Before she could speak out her words, her father stopped his work of counting money and shouted at her, "You are already 15. When I was at your age, I worked already for my family. What do you think your mother and I worked so hard for? Can you be a little more understanding? Don't be so selfish, my princess!"
She knew she couldn't say anything and stop her father. He was always busy counting his money each day after work. Therefore, she carried her brother for a long distance to a doctor which almost ran out all her strength. She was out of breath when they arrived the clinic. The doctor was a kind man and knew her family.
"Yiyi, come and take a seat. What happened?" The doctor asked, "you'd better not tire yourself as you..."
"I know. But my brother has a fever. Can you examine him now?"
The doctor soon checked her brother and then gave him an injection and some medicine. "Yiyi, don't worry, your brother will get well soon." Later he escorted Yiyi and Tutu back home.
