"Kintsugi" or "Kintsukuroi" is a Japanese word that means "to repair with gold", and it's the art of repairing pottery with gold and understanding that piece is more beautiful for having been broken.... It makes it more special and unique...
Kintsugi can also relate to the Japanese philosophy of "no mind", which encompasses the concepts of non-attachment and acceptance of change as aspects of human life.
"Not only is there no attempt to hide the damage, but the repair is literally illuminated... a kind of physical expression of the spirit of 'no mind'"— Christy Bartlett, Flickwerk: The Aesthetics of Mended Japanese Ceramics.
This is just a word and beautiful art technique & philosophy I learnt today and I wanted to share.
Thanks for dropping by.

Oooouuu, MARY! What a good blog! I also like that word and the philosophy behind it!
Sometimes I think that all I need is to be repaired with that gold, like a broken pottery, but I don't have enough gold or I just don't know where to find it...
I hope, good people are "That gold" itself.
Thank you for sharing!
I don't really get 'no mind', but it sounds like 'imperfect' is what 'perfect' really means:)
Risty, I dunno exactly what ice we should break and I wish I'd have Moses' superpowers to break mountains of ice and split oceans...
I'm afraid I'd make a biggest 'mess' if I try to 'break' anything. I better keep the clumsy me quiet. Sorry :(
Mary, there's nothing we could do to break this???
:((((
Estanis looking for excuses to take a break from his work and travel XD
I guess we should learn from this traditional culture here too, I mean westerners and I'm the first to blame since use to replace damaged objects for new ones.
Ill consider a reeducation trip to Japan indefinitely...
Erm, sorry Risty... But c'mon, why are you feeling so 'emo'? :(
:(
A738a- Correction: "people Troglodytes in Homo sapiens' shape that think global warming is "fake news"". And yeah, I'm scared too :(
Risty- Actually, I've read that it's usually made with gold, but there are also pieces repaired with silver and platinum :)
You made a very interesting analysis there! The help or support of your surroundings to make you see your 'flaws' as something 'special'... Yes, that's something important as well :)
You asking why to 'fix' it anyway instead of not to feel any 'attachment' and just throw it away? haha... interesting point of view :D But I think the 'attachment' they refer is related to the time and changes: It's about not to feel sorrow for being broken and for not being like the old yourself. It's not to feel attachment for how you were in the past and to accept that you've changed and it's ok to change and to be different... But don't 'throw yourself away' 'cause you changed! :D
A Catholic/Christian person like you saying that this is a very 'emo-thought'??? You kidding me?? Really?? hahahaha... Don't get me started! :D "Hello Catholic symbol... Oh wait! Is that an instrument of torture??" XD
Thanks EmAn.
erza! Nice to see you again!
Oh what an awesome thing you said there! A smile as analogy to the gold material :)) Thanks for the beautiful comment ^_^
