As some of you know I am atheist but the question is: "Does anybody of you know the reason?" I bet, you have no idea. I bet, you think I am arrogant person with own pride, who decided not to accept God in her life. You know, people judge me easily just because of the fact that I am not religious, even though they know nothing about me. They take me - atheist - automatically as a bad person without morals, values and of course they look down on me. Actually, I have never come across such attitude in my entire life, so do believe me that it is sort of shocking to me. However, this is what this website taught me and I can honestly say that I am thankful to this new experience.
My friends (no matter what their religion is) know who I am and they would never think in this way about me. I don't judge people on the basis of their religion. What matters to me is their character. I don't pretend anything, I am who I am and I am not hidden here behind a fake mask. To be sincere is one of my morals. Yes, I have morals! Weird? Not at all...
I was born in the country, where people mainly are atheists (If I am not wrong statistics say more than 80% are atheists here). My parents, my grandparents, my all classmates, just one girl was religious. To be honest when I look around, there are no believers I would be surrounded by. My all relatives, friends, co-workers, boss, teachers, simply nobody. Is this my fault? Is history of my country my fault? Yes, it is about history, just for you information. I don't want to start here any historical lectures but this whole religious issue has its roots in 17th century. However, as for the latest historical period - the important fact is that we have been for 41 years under the control of the communists, who were totally against the religion. We didn't have freedom here, we were persecuted for own opinions, we couldn't say in the public anything against this regime, otherwise we would be imprisoned. We didn't study subjects such as religion and I have never experienced any discussion about God's existence at school. It might sound awkward but this systém from my point of view killed God. Is this also my fault that I was born and grew up in such environment?
Some of you might opose now and can say: „Ok, but she is mature, there is freedom, she can change her way of thinking and can accept God in her life.“ Believe it or not, I was thinking about it and I simply can't. Nothing like pride or stubborness have to do with it because I am not this kind of person. I just feel that I can't totally change all my life and especially the way of thinking. Just imagine and tell me: "Can you become right now atheist?" Of course, you can't.
I am happy to be a part of this website. I don't want to start any fights here, I just dislike when things are unfair. I asked one question and this is my "sin". To write a blog about me, to say this is not anything personal, to use parts of discussion against me, to give me image of somebody who I am not, this all I find kind of backstubbing, especially as long as it was written by somebody, who calls himself my friend. If this is the way how the religious people introduce their opinions and treat friends, then let me be out of this and let me enjoy my life, in which friendship has way different meaning.

this is a little bit amazing post for me. it looks like if you would justify oneself. Let me some quotes from your post.... where people mainly are atheists; .. parents, my grandparents, my all classmates.., and even more.. (especially i was impressed the arguments where you pointed "...history of my country.." &"..years under the control of the communists.." ). it were like you are a leaf that goes to the flow.
if i was a prosecutor i would say "the defendant is completely innocent"!

you said "I just feel that I can't totally change all my life and especially the way of thinking" and sometimes THE LIFE changes our lifes and ways of thinking.
Environment can impact strongly to a mental state.
if somebody lives in such place, where he(she) is not confident will be alive tomorrow or die, there is the interesting point here.. i think only here you may decide to be or not to be an atheist.

Hi dear luci....I like ur blog ...i grow up in a a religous country and I learnt one thing well no matter u believe in god or not u still can be a good person...I have seen many religious ppl who are so bad...u r a honest good person and it is enough...whoever judge u for such a thing for sure isnt even human beings... im so happy we are freinds...I prefer ppl like u than those just think they believe in sth ...sth that they dont even know it well....live happy always dear xoxo

bee, thank you for your comment! You know, this experience taught me that religion is really way hot topic and it can cause many fights. So lets move on to politics, it is new teritory for me :-D Kidding, I agree with that one Englishman! I am just little bit stubborn person and sometimes I need to experience everything to realise its disadventages :-/ As for your last paragraph, I love it thank you!!!
Luci, the questions of religion have been always a topic that could raise a lot of fights or lead to the truth. Wise Englishmen in their old books of royal behavior once wrote that if you don't want fights and conflicts, never discuss 3 topics with people - politics, religion and personalities.
The thing is that we keep discussing these topics sometimes in a hidden manner and then we get surprised why some people are as hot as a frying pan :)
Personally I think that it's your choice whether to believe in God or not. No one can force you to do anything and no one can tell you that you aren't right. We are all right because we see one object from the different sides. And the object is life.
Luci, once I read an awesome thought in the British book - "I can lay down lower so you'll be higher by standing on my back". No matter what people say, I can lay down for them and then can feel higher and better than me. But it is only body :) Mind and brains will create the other reality :) hope you got it.

Sandra, I would say it is more about being proud of the fact one is religious and to show others that this is the best ever and nobody can be better than such person. Btw .. if I am not wrong PRIDE is one of the sins, at least according to Bible.

Seeker, let me say that this paragraph you posted here is something what discriminates us - atheists. Yeah we might be in search but I am not scared of the situation I would realise that God exists. My life is not empty at all, I am happy that I have healthy kids, nice parents, friends that can support me and I try to live not to survive, so that one day I wouldn't regret.
Just try to think why can't you accept that there are two groups of people - those who are religious and those who are atheists. No need to discriminate one of above mentioned groups, nah? I could have also say something like... ok I find time you give to prayers something you waste it on, instead of it you should spend it with your closest ones. BUT - why should I talk like this and offend people? No need, it is their personal business. I explained here what I wanted to explain. Thank you for your comment.
