Internet addiction? I think there are quite a lot people who don't regard it as a problem. How can the use of a positive force like the Internet become a negative ,debilitating factor in someone's life? Very simple. Just like the use of food, the drinking of alcohol, or the purchasing of material things can escalate into misuse,so that one's preoccupation with using the Internet becomes an addiction. Or may be the desire to escape life stressors-innocent fun?
Thank you, Natasha, for your post! It's good, that you've written about such an important problem!
Virtual reality and computer games help people to get over psychological traumas, stresses and depression. But you should remember the words of Avicenna (Ibn Sina): "Everything is poison, and only the dose makes the poison impercepteble." :-)))
Hello, Anjana,
Thanks for your paying attention to this issue. I agree with you, that the Internet is useful in many ways. Specially for those who haven't got friends. In addition, I'd like to say about people that are less mobile, or socially active than they are used to. I mean a disability which limits their ability to move.
Haha, funny picture!
Unlike drugs and too much alcohol, the Internet does not hurt us physically. Unlike gambling, it does not take much money from us. But if we indulge ourselves too much in it, we will lose our precious time. Time is money!
Actually, do you know or remember that the Google.com posted the Pack-Man game on their homepage last month? It is estimated that people around the world have played the game and wasted 4.8 million work hours and lost $120 million productivity. (cnet news)
I hope the use of Internet won't be regulated by law, but instead we need a kind of self-control. That's a warning to myself :D
