Dear friends! Both Tanya and I are on vacation in Ukraine now. As Kiev is Tanya's native city and she has some property, friends and relatives here, we haven't had any rest since we arrived. Now, we have had everything done in Kiev and are going to have some rest in the mountains hoping for cooler weather and being able to forget about civilizaton there. So, we will not be online for a week or longer. If you still have some questions or would like to take part in our last activities, we ask you to do it today or tomorrow for us to be able to react.

We will be back, I promis!

  • Thank you, dear Afro! We have just returned from the the great two day mountain trip, but I will save this information for my future blogs!

  • I just got back yesterday and my office has started from today! So, now I can read on my PC which I missed during my vacation. And, I must say What a great write up it is with fantastic pictures! I always love to read travelogues! Thanks for sharing with us and looking forward to reading more.

  • Thank you, my friends, for your lovely comments! Western Ukraine is just amazing! Mary, Elena, Estanis! You are Europeans and I do wonder you have never been here! We cross the ocean to rest in the Carpathians. And for you all to know, to rest in Ukraine is not expensive in the western sense of the word. We are paying about 60 USD per night staying in a two-story house without any neighbors. It is not big, but quite enough even for 3-5 people. In America we will hardly be able to get a room in the motel at such a price. And if we even manage to find it, it will be unpleasant to stay there. Many Western people have a wrong idea about Ukraine considering it as a part of the former Soviet Union, in fact, a part of Russia. But let me tell you that Ukraine and Russia have almost nothing in common except bad roads. First time I came here in 1992 and I have to admit, Ukraine has changed dramatically since. I walk Kiev downtown and can't recognize it! It has become so modern and "European"! And I love Ukrainian people! They are so friendly, hospitable, sincere and they don't pretend, they ARE, they are so "natural" and I love it! They are a little different, but they are so very good! Well, I have to close it somehow because I can speak about Ukraine for hours. So, what can I say? If you come to the Carpathians one day, you will get unforgettable impressions! Welcome to Ukraine! Do I sound like a guide-book? Ha-ha! But I am serious!

Have a great weekend, my friends!

  • Oh my what a breathtaking view...

  • Dear Estanis! I'd like to say it is quite cheap and I can give you the links if you decide to travel here!

  • you're making me to reconsider our next long vacations. It's a land I've never thought to travel but this time I feel like something similar.

I guess it's not weird you once felt in love with this land and one of its inhabitants :D

    Thank you Danny for sharing.
  • I am going on telling you about Western Ukraine. Yesterday, despite the rainy weather we had a very nice drive up the mountains. That place is called Yablunitsa Pass. It is famous for its mornings. Local folks call them "drunk mornings" meaning you wake up, look out and see nothing because of the very dense mist. We decided to spend the night there to see the drunk morning. 2643649959?profile=originalWe checked in a very weired hotel, an upside-down house. But everything was OK inside. We didn't have to sleep on the ceiling! Ha-ha! In the morning I woke up at 4 am to take the pictures as I had never seen such mornings before. It is very impressive! We also took a few pictures of the sunset. I hope, it will be interesting.
