Idioms

Hi Everyone!!!!   I have found some of the most commonly used idioms that I know I have used many times......I hope it helps you in understanding how we use them!!!!!

"hot potato" = to speak of an issue (mostly current) which many people

are talking about and which is usually disputed.

example:  John dropped the money issue like a hot potato.

"Actions speak louder than words" = people's intentions can be judged

better by what they do than what

                                                      they say.

example:  Unfortunately, Joni's actions spoke louder than her words.

"Add insult to injury" = to further a loss with mockery or indignity;  to

                                   worsen an unfavorable situation.

example:  When Jason argued with his boss over his tardiness, he added insult to injury.

"At the drop of a hat" = without any hesitation; instantly

example:  Rahul will speak in English at the drop of a hat!!

" Back to the drawing board" = when an attempt fails and it is time to

                                              to start over.

example:  The blog I posted yesterday was too easy, so it is back to the drawing board.

The ball is in your court" = it is up to you to make the decision or step

example:  I think we should work the overtime, but the ball is in your court.

If these are not new to you.......please let me know.....for I have more!!!!!.....LOL
