I CAN, I WILL, AND I DID…

The task of covering hundred miles in 24 hrs falls on Joe’s head as thunderstorm. This is the first time in the history of military school the management has decided to punish the student ruthlessly.  The wolfish smiles on the Sam’s face ignited fire on his heart. The fear of being blacklisted tormented his heart and breaks it into pieces. At any cost he wanted to outdo this punishment. He made up his mind for the daunting task. He forgot everything except Sam’s face.

Next morning he started off with adequate amount of water. Soon the sky becomes darkened with clouds and started raining. It rained incessantly for an hour giving signs of flood but nothing could stop the flame on Joe’s heart. The aim of attaining the task made him run madly. Water splashed everywhere on his each step. The whole body was crying out loudly for attention. But he has no time to listen to it.

Time flew like an arrow and the sun was replaced by the moon and the darkness covered all over the path. For a moment he was lost in thoughts. The thought of Sam tampering important documents of school and later how he influenced authorities to replace his name crushed him. He regretted for trusting his friend blindly. The nasty sound of insects irritated him. The familiar path looked unfamiliar. His foot was sore and killing him. He chanted his name in his mind. Soon he regained his lost confidence. He became focused on his task. He was determined to face any hurdles. The dim light from the moon paved his way to aim. The breezes soothe his inner soul. He conquered the darkness with his each step.

Time ticks away and the Sun came. But there was no time to appreciate the sunrise. He was focused on his aim. At any cost he has to reach his destination on or before the said time. The scorching sun was burning his skin .He was dehydrated completely. His tongue tasted the saltiness of his sweat and glued to the roof of his mouth. He ignored everything. He was burning in his thoughts. Nothing could put off the fire in his heart. He was running fast as he could. His sore foot started bleeding and the smell was frustrating. His whole body crushed out with the pain. His eyes were rolling he couldn’t see anything in front and his legs slipped and he fell down just one mile before the destination. In semiconscious state he saw the grinning face of Sam enjoying his victory along with his friends. Every cells of his body squeezed in the burning thought. Soon a drop of water falls on his eyes and started to rain, he got back to his conscious state. He started to run and he accomplished the task within short time.

The splashing victory made him a hero in the School. They all have one thing to say – Joe’s Victory.

It was an answer to the School Management who has disregarded him, to his friends who have underestimated him and finally to Sam who has hoaxed him for his personal gains.

  • As long as one is determined enough to not abandon his goal, he can never fail... Not only does the story contain a wonderful message, it was also written so well with clever choices of words to entertain the readers to the max; great job, Niki! :)

  • @Bob – It is an achievable task for average runners :)

One of my friends is a professional runner, she used to share me the difficulties she had faced in her initial stages. It made me to write this blog.

  • Hi Niki,

This is an interesting story. Do you know anyone who has had to endure such a difficult journey?

One hundred miles in twenty-four hours would be very difficult on foot. Even with a bicycle, I think I would like to avoid it.

  • Niki as always you fascinate us by your writing!! I admit that I've learned a lot from your writing, you use new good words.

The story has a valuable moral. It is so true that we can over come any thing if we really want to.

Thanks for sharing that XD ..
