It is proven by modern science that the humor and laughter together could be used as a therapeutic mean to relieve stress, combat disease and strengthen the immune system. Research done on considerable scale in the West has accepted humor therapy as priceless, easy method of treating some conditions relating to mental as well as physical disorders.

Some patients visit many medical doctors (physicians) from time to time and say finally to their family members or friends that they still have the same symptoms such as pains in the limbs, headaches, loss of appetite, fatigue, sleep disturbances, numbness, burning sensations, joint pains, abdominal cramp and so forth.  According to medicine, these situations are defined as Medically Unexplained Symptoms (MUS) because the clinical presentations and the symptoms of patient are incompatible with a known physical illness. Hence, the patient visits a number of medical doctors and spend their money as well as time but ultimately live with the same problem (symptom).

Some say that patients of this category would be able to receive a better result with humor therapy because the mental health and physical health are tangled (it is impossible to draw a line in between). Some practitioners in some countries have already started “laughter clubs” to treat people with health-issues. To the best of my knowledge, Indian is the pioneer of the concept of laughter clubs. Scientists admit that the knowledge relating to what happens to brain when we laugh is still very little, but the effect of laughter on psychological as well as physical domains of our body is so prominent. It is believed that the laughter keeps away some emotions like anxiety and depression that lead to weaken the natural immunity of human body. In short, the natural immunity plays a vital role in defending the health of human body. For example, the AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) patients die mainly of some other complexities they get as a result of weaker immunity they own, at times AIDS patients die of pneumonia. The AIDS virus (HIV/Human Immune Virus) belongs to the retrovirus family and it attacks to T-helper cells of the body and then deteriorates the natural immunity of human body. Further, it has been pointed out that laughing relieves stress, causes of heart and blood pressure and improves lung capacity plus oxygen levels in the blood. And also, laughter stimulates the body’s natural pain killers, endorphins, to reduce the frequency and intensity of various body pains.

In this context, the laughter, a gift of nature, could be used easily to improve our health conditions significantly with spending nothing but modesty of humans, and also it is a great hallmark of HUMANITY!!!

Good Luck!

  • Informative blog post,Bimal,
Generally speaking, laughter is the language of the world.
Yet, I like smiling, in rare case I laugh, but when I laugh, it is so loudly that complete silence is observed everywhere and everyone noticed it. Therefore, I avoid laughing out loudly :D
  • Dear Anele,

    Thank You Very Much!

Laughter is a unique trait of the human creature, and I think even “advanced apes” are also beyond the circle. Anyway, it is spent nothing for laughing but only the movement of facial muscles. Some people look at others and laugh proudly to condemn them; I’m referring to something different- a modest, innocent laugh on the face originated at the bottom of the heart.

    Good Luck!

  • It's as old as "Practice Makes Perfect" but still works wonder.  I love to be with happy people most of the time.  I found out that one can generate a genuine laughter from the innocent kids.  My pupils always give me something to make my heart smile all the time.  It really feels good.
