So long as you get a grip on yourself, you have time for everything. If not, life slips away in a jiffy, leaving you panicky and disillusioned…
If time is limited and beyond our control, the only thing to do is to catch it by the forelock and make the most of it! Else, we will be left attempting to grab its vanishing tail in desperation… too little, too late!
In the insidious connection humans share with time, as we discussed last week in this space, planning and balance is the key to a healthy, respectable relationship. You cannot just allow things to happen to you; you have to be aware and in charge of time by managing it right. Memorable events are what life is made of. By living in the moment with awareness, we make the most of the present and create happy moments for the future.
It is important to ensure that there is time for everything – and then, also a time for nothing! So, if at times you have to be in the saddle, there will also come times when you have to lose control and go with the flow. While at times it is critical to wring the last from every moment, at other times it is important to bide time.
Is it any wonder then that the English language has such interestingly confused and self-contradictory phrases related to Time? Lexicographers and quotationists have had an amusing time exploring various angles of the concept of time! Look at this — You could ‘have a hell of a time’ when things go wrong or even when they are great! But you have ‘the time of your life’ only when you are happy! You could be ‘behind times’ or ‘ahead of time.’ ‘Time heals all wounds,’ but you have to ‘stand the test of time’ before that happens. You can ‘buy time,’ ‘catch time,’ ‘borrow time,’ ‘beat time’ or even ‘kill time’! ‘Times flies’, but ‘time stands still’ too! You can ‘race against time’ and reach your destination ‘in the nick of time’, or you could be ‘ahead of time’ — unless of course you are already ‘behind the times’. We ‘have all the time in the world’, but did you know that ‘time waits for no one’?
Whether it is ‘the best of times’ or the ‘worst of times’, it is clear that ‘time is the essence’! ‘Time alone will tell’ if you have ‘stood the test of time’!
If you love life, don’t waste time, for time is what life is made up of — Bruce Lee
Plan your day in a way to give space to all that is important – work and play; thought and action; mirth and empathy; give and take; contentment and gratitude. Treat each day like a miniature piece of life – extract the maximum from it, and give back your best too!
“You may delay, but time will not.” ― Benjamin Franklin
