Yes, you can see the profile pictures or avatars of our new members in the upper-left area of the MyEC main page.

You may find there's no comment on the new member's page if you try to click on a new member's profile picture. That means nobody has visited their page, or at least, nobody has left a comment for them.

Imagine you are one of the new members or newbies who just signed up to become a member of MyEC. You don't know where to start - you could be so confused. You don't know where to find all the useful things you need to learn or how to take the advantage of being a member of MyEC. You decide to come back another day. The next day, you sign in again, and to your surprise or delight, there's a comment on your page - somebody has just left a comment for you...

Don't you think it's a good idea to welcome a new member by leaving a comment on their page? Do you think it makes sense to help new members to know the ropes? Did anybody here greet you when you were a new member? How much did the welcome help you or encourage you?

Yes, a simple 'Welcome to MyEC' will do - it's more desirable if you can take the time to leave more on their page. Who said 'MyEC is just such a great community', so let's try to show the new members how great this club is or can be.

Oh, I'll go and click on a new member's profile picture in the 'Members' box. Hey guys, feel free to share you ideas about this:)

  • Hi Icha,

    Thanks for the great comment. I'm pleased that you think it's a good idea to greet new members. I'd appreicate it if you could help welcome new members here.

    Keep it up!

  • Hi Expector,

    As I remember in the past time when I was rare to enter this site, I often got the emails from my EC that gave informations a new vocabs or beneficial of this site (I forgot about the certain topics). It derived from Tara as the myEC administrator. I registered in 2013 as a member in this site and I am starting to be active member since the last year in Nov 2015. Yes every week or month I always got email from myEC that suggested me to enter the site again during 2 years as passive member. I don’t know what actual of mechanism after Tara left this site, sending emails to new member still continuing or not.

    In my opinion we can greet new member if they become one of our friends list and then we can give them some informations related to this site. These informations, we can give as well in the chat section (I ever did) or private message, because they asked to me about exploring this site furthermore. I thought it is more effective, if I compare with the Mishaikh’s experience.

    Thanks Expector you have arised a good topic to discuss or to talk here.

  • @Evangelina

    Thanks again! I'm glad you'll join the effort.

    @nida

    Good idea! Thanks for the suggestion. Maybe Josef will agree it's worth it!

  • By the way, isn't it possible that the site(i.e. MyEC) auto-generates(I don't know the precise term to describe what I mean) when a new member profile is made/generated(whatever it is called)? Many sites do send you an auto-generated email when you become their member or subscribe for something. By this way, each and every new would get a welcome message.

  • @Evangelina

    Great! Yes, that can be a problem. So, maybe I should find more time to greet new members since I'm just the mod:)

    @setareh

    You really have a point there. Yes, we should be give them more tips on how to make the most of this site. I'm glad you offered to help greet new members. Thanks a lot!

  • Dear Expector, indeed it's  a great idea. I remember when I joined here first i didn't know about blog, forum or other sections; some people welcomed me but they didn't tell me anything about these parts. So that would be so beneficial to give them some tips. I will give it a try.Thanks for your nice post.

  • Hi nida,

    I'm glad you agree it's a good idea to welcome new members. Thanks!

  • It's indeed a great idea, Expector Smith!

    I did welcome a few members to MyEC but it was a long long time ago. I'd try to do it again as it's very helpful for newbies.

  • @Mishaikh

    Sorry about the encounter or misunderstanding. That can be a problem, and that's why we need to talk about this topic - maybe we can find a solution together. Thanks for sharing it with us.

    @Onee

    Thanks again!

    @LUCI

    You really have a point there. In fact, I'm not so sure about it. Maybe we can find an ideal way to greet a new member. Thanks a lot!

  • Well, maybe I am weird, maybe I am too tough but honestly in my opinion, if an average person with average IQ struggles with exploring this website, I guess this person should rather turn off their computer (ehm.. if they know, how to do it). As for making the friends etc. I would say that it is a question of the character and as you can see from Mishaikh's comment, some people are able to take a friendly gesture as chasing or flirting. Just be yourself guys and behave the same way you do in your real life - maybe the best recipe...
