I've been a MyEC member for 3 years now. I have learned a lot from this site and I've made many many wonderful friends here. I've always considered myself lucky because I found this place to improve my English. Here I befriended with so many nice people from across the globe.
While making friends, I've never considered the issue of nationality or religion. Many of my friends here are Christians and Hindus. Among my Muslim friends, I don't know how many are Sunny and how many are Shi'a. They are just my friends. They have always been very good to me. I've learned a lot from them and have shared many happy moments with them. We have always respected each other.
Do you know, why I hardly ever go to EC chat? Because people there fight in the name of religion and try to impose their political ideas on others. When I first joined EC, my country's name was right there on my profile. But it isn't anymore. Why? Because people said bad things to me on chat about my country, although I never said any such thing to anyone. I decided to not to go there so that I could live in peace. But I've always felt that I've lost a big opportunity to improve my English in real life situations by avoiding chat.
However, I've had been happy that I still have a place to improve my English and meet my friends on MyEC. There are blogs, photos and videos to read, look at and watch respectively and to comment on. There are my friends' pages to leave a comment. My friends and I sometimes fight for no reason on our pages and blogs. But that's not a serious kind of fight; it's kind of fight we've with our real life friends sometimes just for fun. We all know that we love each other a lot.
However, MyEC is no longer a place to live in peace and harmony perhaps. Blogs and discussions are full of religious arguments these days. There are people who, I don't want to name them, say that Islam is evil. They say bad things about Prophet of Islam. Whatever they think of my religion, Islam, it is the BEST RELIGION in this world for me and hundreds of millions of Muslims across the globe, in the very same way their religion is the BEST RELIGION for them among all religions. What I know is that I should respect all religions in the world, but those insulting Islam or any other religion should know that they also need to respect mine and others'.
I want to ask, are we here to learn English and make friends and learn about their wonderful cultures, OR we are here to tell others that their religions and countries are bad??

I read all the comments . I can’t add more .But I have a question ; Can you leave your friends Nida ?Friends like Yasemine..and others ? Or your best friend Anele?
Sometimes , I feel it is better to leave EC as it takes my times .But I can’t leave some of my friends here, they will be hurt ,and I have no ability to hurt anyone but myself .So ,you should carry on dear Nida to stay with your close friends , they are deserve you as much as you deserve them .

hmmmm hello and how are you dear ?i think that you are exactly speaking about my blog and what one of friend said ..i am so sorry for that but he said his idea and as i told in the comment Allah is with us dear friend ..there are lots of people from around the world who insult what they do not accept .if i write that blog cuz i was really Curious to know about political matter not insulting any religion..do not give up Sis ...and i am so sorry if my blog bothered you ,,be happy always :)"
Dear Nida, I think it's not important what others think about you and your religion or other things. People talk based on who they are not what it is. And, if some people talk bad about your country or other things, know that there are some friends who don't try to bother you and are your friends. So, you are here not for those who make you upset but for those friends that you love them. Therefore, it's not important what they are thinking or doing. Personally, I think if you leave EC, you give more opportunity to those silly people. Just ignore those members and try to make most of MYEC. What you experiences is not only for you, I'm one of the oldest members here and I've seen so many weird things and believe me or not, many times my heart were broken with even close friends. However, I never left EC. Why? because my goal is more important and bigger than those people who broke my heart or insulted me. We should stick to our goal and we shouldn't let others take that opportunity from us.
Religion is also very personal matter and it's no one business. Please don't make your life misrable because of some people that have no effect in your personal life. What I mean is that don't make yourself upset for people that you don't even see them in real life.
Actually, these people teach us how strong we are and how determine we are because our goal is more important and bigger than them. For chatting, you can also chat but don't chat with everybody. Chat with the one you know them through EC. These are just my suggestions and experiences through these years.
In the beginning, I got upset by so many members here but gradually I learned how to manage myself. We can't control others, we just can control ourselves and or reaction to things or events. It's good to ignore toxic people and be with more hard working, determined and positive members who are many here.
Sorry If I talked too much. Tell you the truth, this makes me so upset because we all can have fabulous experience here but we deprive ourselves from it because of some silly and inconsiderate members.

Look at "Rule No: 6" here. I hope, there will be moderation everywhere in MyEC where needed, which will keep MyEC to be the best for always. :)
Solution is not in saying goodbye, dear Nido! :) If there were solution in it, I had left MyEC months ago. :P
I consider myself an old member of myEC. I've been a member here since 2006, when I needed a friend, I found this site. I left myEC in 2008 due to several reasons and one of them were the fighting, insults and intolerance between members. I even wrote a blog about my experience with myEC.
I rejoined this site last year, I think somewhere in October. MyEC changed, and I found a new energy by writing blogs, uploading photos and writing comments on blogs and forum. However, recently I found myself questioning my existence in here. The insults and name callings in the main room are more regular.
Nowadays, I found myself to be more of spectator rather than participant in the main chat room. I put my sorrow of what has been happening in myEC in my recent blog; Virtual World, Virtual Friends. So I can understand your feelings. I guess when the time is "right" we will leave myEC, even with a heavy heart. We will miss myEC, and then we will be back.
At the moment, I wish those matters will not drive me away from myEC, and I do hope it will be the same for you. But I know it is easier said than done to ignore all those matters and be in here.
